Adware threats

Ok, my anti-virus (norton) can find virus threats but it cant seem to delete any adware threats that have managed to sneek in.

Could anyone direct me to a program (if any) that can track these puppies down and ACTUALLY do something about it.

Coz at the mo, my anti virus doesnt do squat once its found a problem

Ad-aware from Lavasoft, you can find it on this site: Lavasoft. There is also Spybot from Safer-Networking: Safer-Networking. I use both since neither offers complete protection. I understand that if you use both, you are safe from most ad-aware threaths.

I've been having the same problem. When it finds it, and didn't delete it, I went to the website and it gave me step by step instructions to kill them all.

Try AntiVir version 6. It found all sorts of stuff on my pc that Norten didn't even detect. It also got rid of it. As to other programmes...Ludens said it all.

Is there any way can take revenge on the companies who unleash these adware and spyware attacks on us?

There must be something we can do to share the misery.

Well, look, I don't have any programming abilities, whether we're talking HTML, C++, PERL or Assembly, but may I point you towards what I found to be an extremely interesting website:

Skim down to the heading, "The 'Site busting' Lab".

This website has been frozen (i.e. not updated) since 1999, so of course it is now grossly out of date, but a lot of the information contained therein is useful, even if only as a starting point. Also note that his is a very biased opinion...

I found this site in 2001, at which point I started down the Dark Path.

[removed] is an okay site, but I don't know if that's what AC posted or what. Regardless, I see very few warez but lots of fun stuff to do to spammers in there ;)

You're right: lots of great stuff in there. Sadly, bottom of the page has info & links to CD/DVD/eBooks cracks. Referrals to such sites should be done via email, PM, ICQ, etc, instead of this publicly-viewed forum. Thanks for understanding

well people, i have found that spysweeper does a thourough job at cleaning out the evil spyware, i understand spyhunter and aluria's spyware eliminator are pretty good.

no problem, didn't check all the ads at the bottom. my fault.

Back on topic: "Hijack this" is great for removing annoying homepage/autosearch hijackers. I've also found that manual removal gives a great sense of accomplishment...but maybe that's just me
