    Default Useless GA goals

I have found some GA goals that just don't work
    1) The italian noble merchantism
even though my trade income in antioch, tripoli and egypt was more than anyone else was making i still didn't get the points
    2) The aragonese crusade to antioch
i launched the crusade, it was successful, i didn't get the points
    3) The german hanestac league
even though they only have switzerland and swabia they still get the 5 points or something for it
    4) the russian fortress one
i only had the goal once and i built a fortress during that time period but once again didn't get the points

    does anyone know why

dunno, sometimes things can be bugged.

I remember the greatest city GAs and the Iberian civ GAs as the most annoying to accomplish though as well as try building the Krak without naval links.

for the crusades, you need to hold the territory (taken by crusade) until the next points-tally year.

    1. - yep, this is bugged, I have never got it to work either. Never got points.
    2. - As described by Solypsist
    3. - Yep, another bugged one, they always get the points no matter what.
    4. - I think with this one points only get counted when the game ends (1453). Not positive on that one though. So if you build a fortress and it get razed, you have to build it up again.

The GAs have been broken right from the beginning. Even worse, 90% of them are conquest related anyway making the easiest way to win a GA game to go on a conquer-fest

AFAIK, no-one has ever figured out a way to mod the GAs
"I request permanent reassignment to the Gallic frontier. Nay, I demand reassignment. Perhaps it is improper to say so, but I refuse to fight against the Greeks or Macedonians any more. Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."

Yeah its a bit of a shame they can't be modded, oh well maybe if a MTW2 comes out then we will have a chance. Homelands and conquest GA can be modded and included for new factions however.

Not only there are bugged GAs, but there are even hidden ones. I've never figured out how to display the missing ones.

I've never seen this one for example

you were right though, there are several other goals that are hidden. From memory they include holding Jerusalem as Egypt, Holding the Italian provinces as Italy and as the Almohads conquering the whole of the Iberian penninsular.

IIRC, the homelands are moddable. there was an old thread on that.

it was kinda convoluted though based upon a region number system and faction number system that had to be worked out and a big thing on unformatted text.

turns out that \\ or // can be used as line breaks or comments or something.

my memory may not serve that well.

ask Wes or someone else. they were in the thread.

are you using original MTW or the add on Viking Invasion? because with vanilla MTW I noticed that wasa bug, crusades never actually got counted with GA point count. In VI it works fine though.

I recall crusades always working for me (don't remember trying as Aragon though). They give the points the very next year.

The Fortress in Moscow bug may be, that you had the fortress before you got the goal? that same problem can be had as the almos, where you have to build a citadel in Grenada. You have to build it after you get the goal to get the points. France have a similar problem with a reliquiary and cathedral in Paris.

I've had trouble with the danish trade-goal as well - these seem to be broken.
Nope - no sig what so ever.

You'll also lose the points if you upgrade to a fortress before the time for this goal has run out.

You shouldn't get the crusader points before 1205, dunno about the rest.

also, there's no way to raze a single level of the building.

I'd like that as even if you make the mistake of building say a fortress upgrade on top of that, you can rebuild quicker in time.

I think I had the same issue for the Krak when I built an upgrade on top of the citadel.

Rather impressive to get to a fortress in Tripoli before 1200. I imagine a desert with absolutely nothing but a huge stone fortress. The only buildable unit is a peasant...

that's true. It was kinda bare except for a horse breeder which I built for some turcopoles. (the french desperately needs some HA types)

jinettes are good but sometimes doesn't cut it as I need some arrow skirmish cav.

You can get rid of a single level of a castle by letting the AI invade and capture the province. Some buildings get destroyed, and sometimes th elevel of the castle gets dowgraded by one. It seems the chance of this happening is higher for forts and lower for fortresses. But I have had it happen once when I captured Const. from the Byzantines, their fortress turned into a citadel.

No problems even if they are useless, your conquering provinces points will make it seem as if those GA should have not even been there in the first place.

armchair athlete, I'm quite aware of letting the AI capture it but since I have to take it back, it often gets knocked down two levels due to the siege from the AI taking it and you taking it back.

I don't like the AI to take my provinces anyhow.

BTW, what you observe is the structres going down levels.

the castle upgrades also count so the fortress (plain one) was downgraded to citadel and demiculv towers.

anyhow, the citadel in big C, the only high level fortification in many cases, start as having a barbican upgrade so it's rarely reduced to castle and thus people don't notice.

the keeps however, frequently become fort, motee, and bailey.

actually the higher level castles downgrade pretty often also.

What I hate is when you take a province in a raid, and get a nice big fat citadel or something and find out, when you go to destroy it for cash that you only get 200 florins for it becasue it has barbicam or something upgrade. So, being greedy, you destroy it and the whole thing disappears. Shouldn't there 2,000 florins worth of stone under that upgrade?

*my* AI is very good in ignoring the whole GA- thing, and i should do so too.. but i can`t, these "notes" are funny to read though.

    add:

    HIDDEN GA; muslim holy lands.

you have to take control of any province meant above, then lose it, then see a "dshihad(?) x for y points" note in your GA list. this ends at 1205 so don`t try to get these at high/late. note: it is meant to take the province via dshihad(?). if a muslim faction has it, you have to wait for a catholic to take it (turn it rebel, wait for italia or sicily).

Actually anyone taking it is enough, it showed up when the Turks took Edessa, when I was the Egyptians.

In other words, if you want extra GA points as Turks, Eggy and (maybe) Almohads, you should invade/own Antioch, Edessa, Palestine and Tripoli, then lose them to whoever is willing to invade them. After that take them back with a jihad to get the points. AFAIK you will get the same points per province as the Crusades give for each of these provinces.
