No, this is not your typical multiplayer-tournament. This 'imaginative campaign' is one where you will play as either muslims or crusaders (or the byzantines) to try and make yourselves rich, pious and powerful enough to make you so favoured by the Pope/Caliph that you can become an heir to the Papacy or have a high seat in the office of The Caliphate.
Summary
There will be a campaign map, (to be put in soon in an edit) and several provinces to be taken care of. At the start the Papacy will own Palestine and Jerusalem (and that general area) and another faction will soon take the rest of the Crusader Kingdoms and Cyprus. I (Silver Rusher) will be the Pope, and the position of Caliph is still available.
Available Factions
Factions that are available at the start are: The Italians, The French (own the crusader kingdoms), The English, The Spanish, The Aragonese, The Sicilians (they represent the crusader kingdom of constantinople) and the Papacy (me). The Muslim factions are: The Egyptians (the main people trying to destroy the crusaders) The Turks (slow down the advance) and The Almohads (They are not the actual Almohads from MTW, but they represent the Caliphate, like a muslim Papacy). The Byzantines are also available. Other factions can emerge, but they have to start out as generals in posession of other crusader factions, until they are noticed by the Papacy and made into their own independant states.
The Campaign Map
The Campaign map is all of the middle east that is shown on the MTW map, as well as a bit of Egypt, Turkey and a small area of the balkans. It is divided into smaller regions where battles will be fought. You can move around and fight whenever you want, but for income purposes a turn is every week, and a crusade will be called every month (approx.)
Income
Income will be determined only by posession of major cities and money handed out to good people by the Pope and the Caliph. Support costs are irrelevant. As for undersized armies, muslims will be refilled automatically but crusaders (within the map) will either have to pay more money to retrain or ditch undersized units.
Crusades
Crusades will be called every four weeks/years (in the game). At the start of the crusade catholic factions have a chance to send their armies into the Holy Land. Armies can only travel via the Balkans and Constantinople, not Georgia or North Africa. The following factions can use ships to get there however: The French, The Sicilians, The Italians, The Papacy and the Aragonese.
Recruiting
Factions can recruit whenever they want, but units have varying costs. Armies/units which are already in place can be used again (and gain valour after a certain number of battles) Armour and Weapons are something that is paid for WHEN THE UNIT IS FIRST RECRUITED, and not at the start of any battle (they can be upgraded, but for one point the cost is a fifth of the starting cost of the unit). For generals' command levels extra money will be given, but only to be spent on a completely even distribution of valour.
Joining
Coming soon... The campaign map has not been made yet, but you can reserve your faction beforehand if you want. Faction starting stats will be posted soon.
Other Rules
You do not have to listen to the pope or the caliph, but if you do you gain lands. Other things game related but not not actually in the game you must listen to (eg. telling you not to break rules)
The Caliph and the Pope must always play responsibly, in the end it is not the individual player but the religion that wins.
