Thread: RTW release delayed (yet again)

Default RTW release delayed (yet again)

A month ago it was 14th of spetember, a week ago it was 24th of september and now it seems it's been put back again, at least in the UK.

new release date for RTW 1st of october.
I was trying to find some help in the ancient military journals of General Tacticus, who's intelligent campaigning had been so successful that he'd lent his very name to the detailed prosecution of martial endeavour, and had actually found a section headed "What To Do If One Army Occupies A Well-Fortified And Superior Ground And The Other Does Not", but since the first sentence read "Endeavour to be the one inside" I'd rather lost heart.

play.com and Amazon have had 1st October as their release date for weeks now. Anyone displaying anything else was lying to get your money off you. I noticed that Game corrected their release date over the weekend to reflect the correct date.

Don't they realize they're playing with ppls obsession ? Yes, because for me this game is an obsession!! !!!

For crying out loud I have STW and Mongol invasion installed plus MTW with VI standard and at least 3 installation copies for various mods... and I'll have to wait another 17 days for RTW!!!

How can you wait for RTW? How can you be patient?

Why can't they just release it now?

I can remember that MTW came out one mounth after the US, that pist me off back then. It would be more fair if we got RTW before the US.

MTW XL version 3.0 out now! Get it here:

Why do the USA always get games first? I've never really understood it. The only exception I can think of is Paradox, where sweden always gets their game sfirst.

One of the few things actually manufactured in the US anymore are PC game CDs. Well at least that is where they are packaged/distributed from...

    I wonder why...

Actually it cuts down distribution costs as the amount of gamers in the US (that pay for their games) is pretty massive...

They could cut down distribution costs even more if they used two factories to manufacture the CDs - one in the US and one in eastern Europe. As sales of R:TW in Europe are likely to be several hundred thousand at least, they could eliminate the need to use Air Mail.

Still, there was some poetic justice for Europeans when UFO:Aftermath was released. The US distributers messed up so it was available in Europe a month before it was available in the US.

I don't think it is strictly accurate to say the release has been delayed...at all.

As far as I'm aware, CA/Activision have only ever said that the release would be Fall 2004, up until they announced that the game had gone gold, and the offical release date (for USA).

I think CA are to be commended for releasing the game when they said they would - if fact they could have released it one or two months later, and still be within their Fall 2004 announcement.

It's more that the date the shops have been given keeps changing. Most games pen a specific release date (and then change it back a year or two) rather than a season, so we were all eagerly anticipating it when first the date of september 14th was whispered. We didn;t mind to much when 24th was confirmed, thats only ten days after all, but to have to wait another week in the UK is pretty annoying.

Btw Maestro, I hadn't had this confirmed untill I went and asked in store, and I asked every game store we have around here (all three of them). Last week when I asked they all had said 24th, today they all said 1st of oct.

I think its because there is a far larger market here than in the UK. I mean we have several times their population

And I just checked Amazon.com and theres no delay for the US. In fact the game is becoming available on September 22nd.

    Check it out here

    UK population: 60,000,000

    USA population: 260,000,000

The US has more than 4 times the amount of people than the UK. That probably means four times as many sales (though probably not.) Unless the fanbase in the UK is in the millions, I don't think its businessly sound (is that even a term?) to release it in the UK first.

It would be wrong to think that the UK release would be only targeted for english people. I'm french but pre-ordered it from Amazon.co.uk, and I'm pretty sure I won't be the only non-english person to do so.
Therefore it's rather the european market that is targeted with the UK release. And the EU's population is twice that of the USA's.
Perhaps that's because Americans are used to getting almost everything first and would be upset if they didn't with RTW...

At totalwar.com they've announced that the game will be shipped to British retailers on the 29th, and it will go on sale on or around October 1st.

    Only 1,382,400 seconds to go!

It hasn't been delayed for a uk release. It would be released here on the 24th if it wasn't for that stupid EU certification process. Who knows - Maybe the EU will block it for the politically incorrect portrayal of EU member states?

I'd probably drink bleach if that happened.

This is good news - the pre-orders usually get shipped on the same day that the orders get shipped to retailers
