    Default installing mods............... how?

i have my original installation of M:TW and VI, added to which is N:TW, no problem.

but, i now want to add M:TW-XL so i have installed a second copy of M:TW to a different directory and now need to install a second copy of VI................

but i am not given the option to install VI, presuambly because it has already detected the first copy, so what do i do?

    cheers

    Hi peregrine.

you have to uninstall MTW, then reinstall MTW, install VI, simply copy all the files in the MTW-VI folder in another folder (for example Napoleon TW...).

so you have now TWO copies of MTW-VI.

Do not touch the original MTW-VI folder, install NTW in the second folder.

if you want to install another mod simply make another copy of the original MTW-VI folder, rename it and install the second mod in the new folder.

all the copies of MTW-VI work ! you can have all the mods you want.

    max

i am sorry if i appear slow, but most of that flew over my head.

are you telling me that you cannot install VI twice, but that you can copy-n-paste the VI folder into a second M:TW installation?

    cheers

you could just re-install MTW and VI under a different name (eg Hellenic Total War, MTW XL etc, make sure you run the VI patch!) but that will take a bit of time. If unsure about it, that is probably the best way. To install a new version of VI, you have to exit the screen when the CD is first loaded, then go to my computer, whatever the Cd drive is (usually D: drive), right click of the CD icon and click view. Then you will see an icon called setup. Run that, it is the install program. The way maximus described is a much quicker way though, simply install a fresh version of MTW and VI, then run the patch. DON'T MODIFY that folder. Copy and Paste the entire MTW folder into a new, differently named folder (eg. MTW XL). Apply the mod to the renamed folder. Enjoy!

    ahh, i see now, thanks.

will that copy-n-paste method work properly tho, cos it would have no links into the registry? or is it merely a case of making some new startup shortcuts?

    but cheers, i understand now

During some time I had 4 installations of MTW-VI in the same Total War directory. Simply I took the whole Medieval-Total War directory, copied, pasted , renamed (Hellenic, Reconquista and XL, in that time) and installed the mod.
I created shortcuts for any of them and all run properly.
It seems that it is the simplest method.

    Best regards.
