Q: Would you use a Mod?

Question Q: Would you use a Mod?

Who would download and use a Mod that deals with the speed issues and also perhaps makes all factions playable? I am just curious to see the response, IMO, without sorting these issues MP will be ruined

    ......Orda

p.s. I mentioned factions because I can't believe Scythians could be condemned to 'non playable'

I have no problems doing so, but I want to play through as the Romans the first time anyway and I want to give the game a chance in default. As such, no modding for me until I've played through once. After that, only time can tell.

I still have to wait and see how the game is, i only played the demo once and i dont wont to judge the game from that experience, making the factions playable i will do though not so sure about the speed issue.

Even as a modder i think i'm going to give the game a good old play first before i mod some of the factions in.

Was it just me or did i read somewhere that in different campaigns you can unlock different factions?(like the glory goals or the full campaign from medieval)

I read that you could unlock Macedonia as but in another you can unlock pontus( plus the other non roman playable ones)

The only mod I plan on using is one that removes the units (pigs, dogs, gladiators, head-throwing-chicks, etc.) that do not belong in a historical game. Yes, the pigs and dogs and such may have been used ONCE, but that does not make them worthy of inclusion in RTW. I don't need a huge variety of units if it means pushing the game toward fantasy; just give me a good campaign game and good game play for the tactical battles.

It's very unlikely I'll use a mod for MP purpose.

Playing with a mod is a very sure way to play with a limited pool of players.

So either I'll play vanilla MP games, or I won't play at all.

I agree with what most people said here.
Although i'm already aware of numerous features that i dislike, i'm planning to play a default roman campaign at the beginning to see how the game actually plays and decide exactly which features i want to have changed.

After that, not only am i going to play a mod but i'm actually planning to create one myself!

Orda Khan, you want to mod a game that has not yet been released.

I would also wait with a mod. Perhaps there will be a slider to adjust speed, or more options to increase graphic detail and slow the game this way or something like that.

Perhaps they will also offer a quick patch dealing with this issue - 50% slower gameplay patch, apply only if your PC is too good for RTW. :)

I do not play RTW/MTW/STW in multiplayer. I would not download a patch to make all factions playable, take in mind that not all unplayable factions are balanced or fun to play.

I would play the game as it is -> and LATER, after I got used to it and still have issues, PERHAPS download a mod... but I honestly think not.

    Louis,

or maybe CA will make a better interface this time, and allow us to switch between mods as easily as any other modern game

Been using mods for some time with MTW, see no reason not to with RTW. But I have two conditions before I'll try something new. Like BKB says, I'll play the game first. Once I find the things that REALLY irritate me, I'll look for ways to eliminate or improve them. First thing that comes to mind is Stuie's mention of the "supernatural and laughably rare" units or situations. Uber elephants may eventually fall into that catagory. Elephants are NOT invincible. But I have yet to figure out how to kill one in the demo playing as the Romans. Aside from the elephants, my major dislike with the demo isn't speed, which can be annoying, but rather the simple interface controls. I saw nothing wrong with the MTW set-up, so why change it? But again, I'll wait to play the game before running off into the unknown, yet again.

I definitely will mod, although like others, what I mod - or what mod I download - will depend upon how the final game compares with the demo.

Like others, I will ditch the fantasy type units, although being lazy and not particularly interested in the faction, I'll leave it to others to fix the Egyptians. But no dogs, pigs, head hurlers, and other such bovine waste products.

For variety sake, I might keep the gladiator units, but make them altered versions of the standard legions, including graphics, but removing some of the 'professional' type abilities, eg. sapping, while perhaps giving them a slight edge in attack.

Movement speed, etc will get modded if my worst fears are met, and any seriously overpowered units will get fixed, either with punitive costs or reduced abilities.

    Yes Louis, it is indeed.
Your answer is the reason I asked the question. Whatever the community reaction to Multiplay, Mods have never been popular with the majority. This was a sort of shot in the dark to see if there would be any interest from MP'ers. I think we would all prefer to simply load a game and play it and to just play a game while complaining about it seems pointless.

Longasc, no I don't want to Mod a game that hasn't been released, my question was how many would be prepared to download and play a Mod in order to make MP feasible. Regarding the SP campaign where pause is always an option, I see no real problem but without pause, in a MP situation you could quite easily lose an entire unit in seconds, while your attention is elsewhere.

I love the appearance of this game and I really want it to be as great as it can be. Please understand that this is a hypothetical question, with some luck we won't require a Mod, but CA have been pretty quiet so it's a 'just in case' scenario

There is no question that I will be playing many of the expected SP mods that will be produced by the TW community for RTW. I can't remember the last time I played an unmodded version of MTW!

Regarding MP mods the issue gets a little complicated. The answer is still yes but the mod has to be popular enough with the MP community for it to be worth my while. There's no point in dl'ing a MP mod that is only played by a handful of people online, especially if many of them live far away and have terrible pings.

If I ever buy RTW (still considering it, due to the recent state of things) and in reply to the MP question: NO.

Just because I NEVER play MP (too addicting and time consuming).

As for the the SP (off topic, I know): YES.

All of this, PLUS the obvious Egyptian units and culture COMPLETE ALTERATION and the inclusion of EVERY faction not playable or inexistent in the game, all according to Europa Barbarorum's historical accurate guidelines.
