    Default New interview with CA

Check out the new interview with CA at Gamespot.

This is a very thoughtful piece, which made me appreciate even more the amount of work that has gone in RTW; after the limitations of the demo, it is good to get a buzz again about the real thing.

The next week is going to go very slowly...

Wow, very nice, thanks for posting this up. It was amazing to hear that, if I'm hearing right, they're planning to work on two games at once again, one with the relationship that Medieval had to Shogun, and the other with the same relationship as Rome had to Shogun.

I can't possibly imagine what will be happening four years from now.

Nice interview. Not much new really, but it is presented in a good way. It sort of calmed me down a bit and made me look forward to the game even more.

The one thing I did notice was the routing banners. Much better than the blank ones we have now. Their colour fade quickly and then come back. They have a sort of urgency to them as opposed to the total lack of feeling with the blank ones. Still I don't like the blank state of the banner but this is way better.

Someone from CA (Gil as I recall) posted recently that the banners flash white/original colour when routing. It seemed to me also in the Gamespot piece that the flashing speeds up the nearer the unit comes to routing.

It was good to see in the interview that CA really appreciate the feedback they get from the forums, and that they have heated debates about the same topics that feature heavily here (and on other forums), especially around gameplay versus historical accuracy.

They also confirmed that the game was originally going to be released a year ago, and that Activision gave them an extra year to add in all the cool features in their wish list. This suggests the final game should be very polished, as it has had an extra year of development than it might.

CA talk about RTW having a much larger impact in the market than MTW or STW, especially in the USA; no doubt they are anxiously awaiting the first sales figures, to see if all their effort and the publicity (including TV programmes) has paid off.

So how much more money than MTW did RTW take to develop? And how many more sales than MTW will RTW make?

Well, MTW took 2 years to develop (not including development on STW).
RTW has taken 4 years, probably with a (much?) bigger development team. So, estimate RTW has cost 2-3 times more to develop than MTW.

As for sales...any one care to guess?

Yeah, I remember that. I even posted something. But when you can only imagine you will never get really confident in how it looks.
I don't believe the unit will actually blink when it is about to rout, it blinks when routing. The other way would be very confusing.
