Characters in Rome?

I have recnlty been watching all the videos and previews of rome total war. For the units pictures at the bottom i keep seeing units with a face on unlike the normal units. I was just wondering what kind of unit this was or was it a character that can fight in the game. I have heard no mention of this but i am wondering what it is.

I think those are family members of your faction. I think I've read that they can be your best governers and generals etc. So they are very important to your success throughout the game.
They can also command a second army in battle longside you if you have more then 20 units. Don't know about a third, a fourth and so on though.

They can also have pets, followers etc. Like a pet monkey.
