Lions aren't that good at fighting, they usually let their wife do the job of hunting and things like that. From what I know, they spend their time sleeping and eating, (as any common cat), while Tigers are rather solitary and used to hunt by themselves (and I think Tigers are bigger than lions)

The tiger at equal weight, agression etc will win as it in general is more assed ot fight. Also as stated b4, lions hunt in packs and let females do all the fighting, so a female lioness may have a chance but a tiger IMO will win

that link you gave me doesnt really give a great point why its better i still think the tigar would win a 1v1 combat even if the lion is taller a the shoulders the tigar is still longer and heavyier.

Most the Tiger's muscles are in its legs, while the lion has more heavily paddeed muscles in its shoulders and forelimbs. Cats tend to use their upper bodies to fight each other anyway, so the lion will win.

Tigers can grow to be much larger than lions, so it is likely that it would be the victor.

It is strange how pervasive the erroneous view that male lions do not hunt can be. They most certainly do and they fight as well. That said, when two similar predators fight in the wild, the single most important determining factor is which one weighs the most. One on one, that would generally favor the tiger.

I think it's a known fact that lions do not usually hunt, but let females do it. It might not be 100% true, but in almost all (not to say all) documentaries I've seen, she-lions were hunting, while lions were just sleeping or messing around.

Heh, if you don't have any way to prove me that these documentaries give us false/screwed up informations, I don't know why I would consider them as being erronous.

I could say something like 'It is strange how pervasive the erroneous view that dinosaurs have disapeared can be'. Yeah nice. Do I have any proof ? Not really, but well, who cares anyway

Male lions have to hunt as there are plents of lones males or small groups of males not in prides...

And as for fighting, while the females may do the bulk of the hunting in a pride the male will do most, if not all, of the fighting... It is his role in life..

Still think a tiger would win as it is basically bigger and stonger...

The fight is to the tigers advantage(but barely) but both have a chance of winning. There have been documented cases where the lion has won. And there are cases where both have died from the wounds. Most of these fights have been arranged by people from within a monarchy and due to the small audience they are'nt well documented and on top of that there was never a significant # of these fights arranged to have a reliable statistic.

When the fight starts the lion will usually attempt to break the tigers legs whereas a tiger will go for the neck and due to a lions large main it helps protect the lion. So it boils down to who gets the first critical strike in.

Some lions have run into many confrontations with hyenas. The problem lions have with Hyenas is that hyenas have a bite that packs more pounds per square inch than a lion can. Hyenas do try to take advantage of this and will break a lions leg if the oppurtunity arises.

Now does a tiger have a common enemy? They are the real king of the jungle as they run into a lot less confrontations than a lion does. This is to the lions advantage 1 brought in from the wild would have good experience in fighting whereas the tiger would only be experienced with its own kind usually.

You are the second individual on this board that has insisted I prove their undocumented assertion to be false. You have misplaced the burden of proof my friend, and done so in a very petulant manner.

The higher up in the hierachy the less hunting a male lion does. They do still hunt. But the lioness has to look after her young and young male lions who are rogue have to hunt for themselves or with the help of other young males (typically a sibling).

Still the lion has some advantages, like the mane which prevents easy neck-bites (the tiger likes to crush the neck).

Anyway... the Lion would have the advantage if it were a fight "in the wild" ... (I know, highly improbable due to the fact they live on different continents and in different environments) ... because the Tiger would be solo whilst the Lion(s) would be fighting as part of a Pride (English collective noun for a pack of lions).

While the asiatic lion is nearly extinct, there is actually one sizeable community of them left. About three hundred live in the Gir Forest in India, a game preserve dedicated especially to the asiatic lion. National Geographic did an enteresting write up on it that could probably be found on thier web page.

Actually both names are perfectly valid, Liger and Tigron.

They are both totally different animals though: A liger is a male lion and female tiger. A tigron is a Male Tiger and a female lion.

The interesting thing about these animals is not the marking on them but the difference in size. Ligers are far far smaller than Tigrons for qite frankly amazing reasons: The gene that limits growth for the Lion is in the
