    Default Doom 3 demo

Does anybody know if the demo is a full quality (graphicswise) representation of the game?

Ok, well now that I've finished the game, maybe I should check out the demo? Someone needs to explain the concept of "release schedules" to ID; demo first, game second...

It was a very cool game. Scared the piss out of me a couple times.

My machine is being upgraded as I write this (I'm on my sweetie's dinosaur machine right now). I had Win98 but I'll have XP tomorow. Looking forward to trying out the demo.

I'm not much into FPS games, except for the Rainbow Six series, but I might get Doom3 just for the graphic treat and "scared the piss out of me" value I've heard it has.

If you try the demo Plantagenet, could you let me know if the demo is the same as the full game as per the graphics? Thanks.

    Hello,

I just finished playing the demo. My graphic cards needs replacement to handle all tricks (Geforce 4800 SE). I didn't run into any large combat yet: 512 RAM was sufficient for now. CPU Pentium 4 2.6.

I couldn't enjoy the full graphical detail (no FSAA, though the card supports it, no ultra high quality textures without terrible lag). The flashlight and dark parts certainly adds to the creepy atmosphere, but it's pretty dark in all 3 demo levels so it somewhat swamps the effort to make ultra graphics.

The monsters are tough to kill with a pistol, and even the shotgun isn't really helpful when something jumps on your back from an odd place. But it's scripted and repetitive (invites to cheat: play, save, play, die, load, repeat).

I like the walking sentry bot and I was pretty surprised that it was smarter than anything else. It guarded me, took the lead in creepy corridors and came back to seek me when I stayed behind or checked another room, yet guided me without flaw to the elevator. The happy bliep bliep made me feel comfortable, and I really missed it when I had to continue my travel alone. Doom3 must be a creepy game.

Turned gamma 2 notches higher and I'm enjoying the graphics now. May even purchase a new card and play it. The difference between the 9700 I had and my GF 4800 is tremendous. Too bad I had to return it.

I just read an article about graphic cards for Doom3: a 512 mb one is the best choice for the highest setting.

Doom is a great game graphically speaking for more than one reason

ive played it with 2 systems now first my beast (Athlon 64 3200+ (OC'd), GF6800 GT (Ocd to ultra speeds)) which runs at full everything... god its great

then for a short time i played it on my old video card (9600XT) and when set on medium detail and with no shadows the game still looks great

even on low settings the game looks great they did a real good job

as for the demo.... never tried it
