Default Where would you travel if you can.

    Hi all,

    I am from Spain

The last year I was in Chile during a bossiness travel, since then I would go again with my girlfriend in holidays, by the moment I haven't enough money but it's a whish.

Where would you travel if you can or where do you plan to travel.

I'd say the UK, but I'm going there next year for about three/four months, guess that the US would be my second choice.
    Why?
Well, it seems intresting, either the US or Japan.
BTW why are the jugglingguys balls black? Aren't they supposed to be coloured?

In November my wife and me will travel to Australia (with a short stopover in Singapore).

This was on the top of my wife's wishlist for quite some time (last year in spring we fulfilled my personal dream when we traveled to Japan).

Countries that a definitely still on our wishlist are e.g., China, South Africa, or New Zealand (and I would like to go to Japan again )

When I'm older (I might take a gap year before University to travel and work) I'd like to go to all around Europe, the US, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada (I have relatives there, so this one might be a bit easier), Egypt and the Himalayas - all around the Nepal/Tibet/Bhutan area.

Well actually I'd like to go back to Spain again. Last time was Andalucia so I'd like to go to Castille now.

Eastern Europe is pretty cool, Czech republic, Poland, I went in 91 and I'd be interested to see how it changed. Didn't make it to Hungary so that would be on my wish list.

Oh, and I'd really like to ride a motorbike to Singapore (as you do).

A free assassin walking around Castille !

Castille is funny if you like history, there are several castles, medieval towns, roman ruins. ... and very good foot and wine !!

My only warning is that temperature are above 40º C in summer ! so if you can travel in july you will have better time. Well, if you have gone to Andalucia you know what I am talking about.

I'd like to go to austrailia - to live there though not just a trip.

I'm going to the Maldives for my honeymoon so that will prob be my most expensive trip i'll ever take.

I'd also like to go back to barbados. Had an excellent time there this year and would love to see more of it (prob the west side where it has calm waters)

For many years, my top three places to visit were Australia, Greece and Egypt. I think I'd have to add England, Germany, Japan and New Zealand. The reasoning:

Australia: beautiful land, deadly and/or strange critters, and the attitude of the folks that live there. I'd also like to explore the southern hemisphere's night sky with my telescope. Lastly, but not leastly (?), visit clanmates barocca and TNG.

    Greece: the ruins!

Egypt: the ruins! ...and the Nile.

England: I got a small taste of London on a business trip and liked it. Also, England has lots of familiar places thanks to its well known (to me) history and stories.

Germany: most of my family roots trace back to Germany.

Japan: got on my list thanks to STW.

New Zealand: is on my list as a result of that wonderful travel brochure that was the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Alas, I seriously doubt I'll ever get to see more than one or two of those places - if I'm lucky.

What!? No-one mentioned Belgium as their favourite travel destination yet? Come on guys...

As for me, I'd like to visit one of the Scandinavian countries; Finland - Sweden - Norway. All three of them or just one, doesn't matter, as long as I get there some time.
Another "dream" is to visit Argentina some day, but that'll probably just remain a dream...

The US. There are many things I want to go to the US for, to see and to do. Visit Antietam and Gettysburg, and see a Red sox game at Fenway park are top of the list.

I must say though, I'd probably be a bit nervous traveling to non- English speaking languages... I don't speak any other languages. But I've heard the Euorpeans are a lot better educated language wise and most take English in school.

I have an inkling that you'd leave with a different impression than the one you arrived with.

One question that's really been bugging me, maybe you can help.

What is with the British obsession with the American civil war? I heard that you have more re-enactments of our civil war than we do. I am dumbfounded by this, so what do you think the source of this is?

BTW, I'm going to see Manassas (bull run) this Saturday, so if anyone in the Virginia area wants to join me on the battlefield you'll be welcome.

To be honest, I don't really know why we enjoy that period of history so much. I enjoy it because of all the controversy about the whole war and the reasons of both sides for partaking in it, both could be seen as honourable.

I have an inkling that you'd leave with a different impression than the one you arrived with.
I don't get what you mean by this, I do not hate America or American people, I am in fact one of the biggest supporters of America I know, I just dislike your politics and current administration. It is totally different from the American way of life, which I see as nothing but great.

I didn't mean that, I just meant in a general sense. I'm sure I have some preconceived notions about your country that would be corrected if I were to visit there. (and i plan to)

In the same way I'm sure there are things you assume or take for granted that are different in this country. I'm just saying you would leave with a different impression, that's all. Of course you'd also have a helluva lotta fun here to! There's soooo much to see!

Have you ever actually gone to a real baseball game?

Europe and Australia. Though I'd like to see the US as well, I've only seen the midwest and new england, would be nice to go out west. Redwoods, rainforest, yosemite...

I've been to Gettysburg. Was fun. No substitute for actually standing on little round top or in devils den.

Would like to go to England/Ireland. I hear it is very beautiful in parts. Also want to see Hastings (interestingly, I live on a street that is off a street called Hastings) and some castles. Then I would go to Normandy, across the channel.

Also interested in Germany or Rome.

What's the story with public loos in China then?

@ Steppe Merc, you needn't worry too much about non-English speaking countries in Europe. It is I am afraid true that they are much better at learning a second language than we are. In western Europe the second language is almost always English (in Eastern Europe it is often German or even Russian. Oddly in Rumania I gather its French). It certainly isn't true that everyone speaks good English (except in Scandinavia and Holland) but most will understand a fair bit and plenty speak it well. Anywhere tourists are likely to go will be well served.

I traveled as a 20 year old through Poland and Czechoslovakia, were English is not at all widely spoken, and had no problems. Its surprisingly easy to communicate when youre put to it.

Of course as with anywhere else you will receive a better welcome if you at least bother to learn hello, goodbye, thank you and so on.

@Tricky lady, the first foreign country I visited was Belgium. My dad must have a weird sense of humour... ;-) (I mean, really. We stayed in Charleroi) Norway is stunning BTW and absolutely worth visiting.

Do we really have lots of american civil war re-enactments in the UK? I've seen (well, heard of, they don't really appeal) English civil war re-enactments, and Napoleonic ones, but never a US Civil war one. I'm sorry to say I know very very little about that period, which is not good. Though I remember the battle of Bull Run from O level history so i must have covered it.

I have to say i havn't heard of any american civil war re-enactments over here. I know of the sealed knot (english civil war re-enacters) because Edgehill where one of the battles was, is about 3 miles away from where i live.
