Thread: You may encounter problems with Rome:TW and Windows SP2
smoogs 19:46 09-23-2004
Rome:TW wouldn't install on my computer when I was using Windows SP2. The install process would go almost to the end of the install, then crash.

After I removed Windows SP2 the game installed and ran ok.

Just giving a heads up in case other people run into the same problem, they'll know what to do now. :O

Oh crap. I do sincerely hope that isn't a genuine bug and is just a symptom of your own rig. To release a game this long after SP2 that isn't SP2 compatible would be criminal and I wouldn't have thought that CA would be so careless. These guys produce quality goods not tripe. I wait faithfully to install RTW on my SP2 rig

I knew MTW had problems running with SP2, along with many other games and even several Microsoft softwares... that's why I didn't download it, but RTW which is a brand new game... It is definitely not worth downloading it

I haven't ever had a single incompatability with SP2 yet - including the Total War series. Rome will be fine.......

I swear to you MTW was on the list along with Unreal Tournament 2003 for example. Anyway, as long as your programms run...

You may have to uninstall your SP2 though, look at this thread https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...8&page=1&pp=30

At least 2 people with SP2 couldn't install the full game.

one of the possible SP2 problems turned out to be a driver issue

UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS

I have XP w/SP2 and had no problems w/install or run Had an audio problem that had the advisor stuttering (going back over the same couple of words 2 or 3 times) Reduced my system refresh rate from 85 to 75 hz and the problem went away
