Default Solution to 1311 Error in RTW

Hello everyone, I'm a long time Lurker and I've decided to come out of hiding to post a solution to my troubles with installing RTW.

I was getting this error while installing RTW

"Error 1311. Source file not found. E:\sndtwo.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

So, after a bit of research and swearwords...along with nearly chucking the CD across the room (luckily I restrained myself)... I finally found a solution.

If you get this error, open regedit and go to the

    following key :

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows

    NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

the reg entry on the right called "allocatecdroms" has to

    be set to 0.

Reboot, double-check to make sure it is still set to zero,

and try installing from the CD again.

An excellent post. Im sure this will save many people from destroying their computers in frustration :)

    Welcome to the forums.

Just a general warning be very careful playing around in the windows registry - export it before tinkering with it first!

Excellent advice. Forgot to add the general warning about registry editting.
