My DVD/CD drive gets very hot after a while (most of the heat I think is coming from the hard drive below it), and CDs tend to cook if left too long in the drive. So much so that some DVDs refuse to play if the machine has been on for some time.
This is the main reason I do not like protection schemes based on having the CD in the drive - if the CD gets damaged (over heating etc), you're basically stuffed.
