    Default Noob Questions.

Hey i'm new to the entire Total War scene and i have a couple of questions about RTW, hope someone can help me with this.

    1. What are effective ways to deal with riots?

    2. When a city is pleuged what can i do about it? And how do i quarentine?

    3. I don't have enough people in my family to govern all the cities i have, can i hire governors outside of my familiy? If so how do i do this?

    4. When you have 2 major armies which are divided and cannot be merged coz they are both at there maximum capacity, can you use them in a battle together, or can you only battle with 1 army?

    5. What's up with the max army cap? can you somehow increase it?

    6. Can you ask allies to help you out in a battle, if so how?

    7. Can you give an army like a gift to let's say the senate, if so how?

That's it for now, any help would be appriciated thx.

    Alumenad,

    1. You must have a garrison and/or a governor. Build a shrine/temple to increase "public order". Each shrine has different effects, so check them first. Also build walls and enclosures, so they feel more secure thus happier.

    2. Haven't encountered a plague yet, but try building the Sewers. It improves "public health". Though, realistically, it is more of a deterrant.

    3. You can manually control cities w/o governors. It's in the options I think. Can't hire other governors though, they must be a family member. Adopt a family member if the opportunity comes up.

    4. The AI handles your other army, you can only control 20 units.

    5. You mean 20 units per army? Shogun and MTW only had 16 so this is actually an improvement. But not nearly enough, I agree.

    6. I think just like your own army, your Ally can help you out as long as they are in the vicinity. I'm looking for a more overt call for help too so, we're both looking for answers to that

    7. The options you have are in the diplomatic parchment, so I don't think that is possible because I don't see it.

Thanks for the help, 1 more thing though, so you're saying that if an extra army is close by it will be controlled by AI in the battle you engage in. Correct?

Q1. What are effective ways to deal with riots?
Keep your population happy. Lower taxes, more garrisons, temple, amphitheatres, sewers all seem to keep the public order up. Send in a better governor. Walls may increase public order, I haven't experimented. Win battles, people love a winner - or at least don't lose a battle, I did and order dropped in lots of places.

Q2. When a city is pleuged what can i do about it? And how do i quarentine?
    Don't know, sorry.

Q3. I don't have enough people in my family to govern all the cities i have, can i hire governors outside of my familiy? If so how do i do this?
No, governors have to be family members. How ever I thought I read (or heard) that captains that do well can become eligible for adoption.

Q4. When you have 2 major armies which are divided and cannot be merged coz they are both at there maximum capacity, can you use them in a battle together, or can you only battle with 1 army?
If you have 2 major armies and only one of them are commanded by a family member then on the battle you will only fight with maximum of 20 units. As units route or withrawal of the map, the other units come on as reinforcements. However, if both armies are commanded by family members then the other army will be on the battle field under AI control. Beware there are reports that these AI faction members have a tendency to suicide by charging. It happened to me.

Q5. What's up with the max army cap? can you somehow increase it?
    No its an engine limit.

Q6. Can you ask allies to help you out in a battle, if so how?
If your allies are within a certain distance they will automatically (it seems) come to your assistance (under AI control). See this screenshot .

Q7. Can you give an army like a gift to let's say the senate, if so how?
    I don't think so.

I think you are right about adopting good captians. I lost too many family members, so i had to keep my remaining family members in the towns. Obviously i ended up battling with captians. After a few succesfull battles i started getting addoption notices.

Another question, how do i ambush armies in the campaigne map? How does it work, and what can i do exactly, the options?

When they mean quarentine, all they mean is to keep whatever units/agents you have in that city. If you start moving around, they will pass the plague.

So no units come in or out of the city. Don't worry about trade, it doesn't spread plague.

Troops. Lots and lots of troops. You can also leave the town, let it go rebel, besiege it, take it back and then enslave the inhabitants. I found that to be extremely effective against a particularly unruly city in Asia Minor. Got some nice virtues and prestige with the Senate, too.

    2. When a city is pleuged what can i do about it? And how do i quarentine?
Nothing to do there but wait. I also build public health buildings like sewers -- can't hurt. Retrain your garrison each turn, too, if they're taking losses from the plague.

You can't declare a formal quarantine, but you can avoid moving any units, including agents, through the city or the province. Other than that, you have to let nature take its course.

    3. I don't have enough people in my family to govern all the cities i have, can i hire governors outside of my familiy? If so how do i do this?
Bribe generals from other factions. Obviously, this only works if you have enough money. However, I've just recently discovered that bribing the depleted armies of factions that are down on their luck is a great source of new governor material. Just be careful it doesn't happen to you.

I have nothing to add to the answers already given to the rest of your questions.

    Hope that helps.

The wait button lets you hold off in hope of better weather. If it is raining or snowing and you have a lot of archers that you want to use, then it might be a good idea to wait in the hope that the weather changes.

I seem to remember reading pre-launch that night battles would not be possible, but you could fight at dusk. Not sure where I read this--maybe on Gamespot. If you wait until you can't wait any longer, you will notice the light dimming as the sun gets lower.
