    Default Military Access - diplomacy

Has anyone been able to negotiate for military access (being able to march your armies through an ally's provinces to attack elsewhere)?

I'm currently playing as the Brutii, have an alliance with the Macedonians that's been solid for twenty years (268-248, fourty turns). I've done everything -- asked for military access with a "blank check", offered mutual military access, asked for military access while offering to attack the Greeks who they are at war with, asked for military access while offering to attack the Greeks AND give them Sparta, etc etc.

To every offer, they respond with, "From your past deeds we'd have to be slobering idiots to let you march over our lands." But, as I said, the alliance has been solid with no breaks on either side.

??? This is the part of diplomacy I was looking the most forward to -- being able to enter allied territory and help them against attackers.

Mine is weirder. I asked Carthage to be a protectorate because the Senate asked me to. They refused everything I did so I used the give in to my demand or I'll attack you offer.

Their response was somewhere along the lines of "We cannot accept your generous offer because of your past actions."

I've had a few factions allow me military access. Brittania did when I was Julii, Seleucia and Armenia did when I was Parthia.

I helped Armenia fight off Pontus and Thrace they didnt seem to care that I saved thier hides though, they could have given me a little tribute...hmmpf

I had a head scratcher last night. I'm allied with the Germans. One of their towns is beseiged by Britons within marching distance of one of my legions. I request military access and offer to attack the Britons. The Germans vehemently refuse. Alrighty then, guess barbarians don't like Romans marching through their lands... well at least I have a ring side seat.

You do'nt need permission just ask for forgiveness later. Sometimes the senate sends you a nasty letter though for doing so

I was hoping that Military Access would be its own seperate option. So I could pay a neutral faction some fee to safely cross their territory and get at my enemy. I don't like that you have to be Allied first.

How did you do it? Did your diplomat just walk up and say, "Military access, please, for whatever you want"? Did you have to pay them vast sums? That's the only thing I haven't tried, because I haven't had the cash to plunk down.

I got the nasty letter immediately after marching toward the town. So I backed up and said "Mother may I?" Since the Senate wasn't happy and the Germans weren't happy I was like "$&#) it, fight your own battle!"

In all 3 cases I had already been allied with them for a few turns and previously had shared map information and a trade agreement.

When I asked for military access I also offered them access to my lands. In the case of Brittania they didnt want accsess to my Julii lands but still gave me access to thiers and as Parthia the Selucids and Armenians accepted access to my lands even though they seldom used it.

With Brittania I was already fighting with the Dacians and Germania who they were enemies with so maybe they figured I would help them?

With Selucids we shared contempt for Egypt and had agreed to each attack them.

I cant get map information, let alone military access, despite having massive influence.

I guess no one trusts me. It's kinda frustrating though because there might as well be no diplomacy when no one ever accepts anything.

Map info is pretty easy to get. I havent dealt with everyone yet but so far only Egypt believes they are too good to trade me 1:1 for map info as they always request a tribute to which I say " No dinero pharoh"

Ah-ha... After looking, I realised that in all three campaigns I've got going, I'm allied with their worst enemy. Ha! That'll teach me to look at my Allies panel more often. That makes sense, thank you very much Thoros!
