Thanks for the tip! :) I'll definitely try it out. Fighiting the Greeks will be a challenge even with good tactics because they simply outman me!!!!!!!!!!
Fighting against greeks wont be problematic. They will be easier than Gauls, Germans or Brits.
Barbarian warbands are fast, and they may cause you some losses, before they break from combat. Their numbers also protect them from missile fire (no matter how much missile troops you have, some will charge at you, sooner or later). Losses against barbarians were rather high. I usually got few hundred of troops down (2-3 units in numbers - minimum)

War against greece is piece of cake, if you force them to fight on your terms.
Try to attack them, rather to be attacked, cos they will be static, positioned on some hill, and you will be having time to exploit some traps, get higher ground. Also, use some cavalry to lure 2-3 units from their battleline (just ride close to their fronts for a while, and you will bring few of them right onto your pila troops. Phalanxes are so slow, that you can even try this trick with princeps or hastati.
Use bowmens, they are really worth their money against greeks, and have more cavalry than greeks have in one stack. Greek cavalry usually sucks, and AI selecting phalanxes as core in any army, with few or even no cavalry at all.
Battles against Greeks will be much longer in time, but you probbably get fewer losses(mine ranged from 0 to 300 max, while Greeks usually loosed all stack per battle). Dont let them attack you. After 3 battles as attacker(losses in all 3 battles was about 150men), i get attacked on open ground and in that battle i lost nearly 800.
Build fort after each move. Then, they attack and besiege you. In your turn, break the siege by sallying out from fort. AI will simply allow you to leave fort, deploy your army, and you are considered to be attacker, so you will chose, where and how to strike. To clarify, i have also timer off, so i can play battle as long, as i need, to exterminate any army.

Yeah, the battles turned out to be a breeze. Now, the Greeks only have 1 full-stack left. Now, I have to build up my forces again and saile for the nile to fight against those darned Egyptians! Now that's gonna be tough.

The Egyptians will be tough... I'll leave the battle tips later if you need it, but remember to always exterminate every settlement and try to get the Memphis quickly because the culture penalty at Egypt will be a pain in the backside.

    Question Re: Roman: Julii

    Hdey Quintus,

Yeah. From my Brutii compaigns, I've found that Egytians are easy to beat militarily, but hard to occupy. So, I'm gonna bring my special group of garrisons along with my main army.

I'm also considering attacking Pontus as well, but I think if I let the Egytians grow any longer, they'll be even more dangerous than Ponuts, although Pontus is closer.....

What do you think? Pontus is my immediate threat but Egypt is much more dangerous.

    Thanks.

Where does Pontus occupy, Anatolia? Both factions are very powerful in their own right. Which faction you choose to attack is really down to you, at his stage of the game you should already be the undisputed master of Western Roman Empire, take the Eastern part as well.

    Question Re: Roman: Julii

    Hey QUintus,

Yeah, I'm the master of the West and North. See, Pontus oun the entire Anatolia and pushing into Parthian territory. It's just that the Pontus units are all that dangerous. But the Egyptians have the Pharoahs Bpwmen and Pharoahs Spearmen, which are sick. XD

    So, yeah. I'm torn.

Doesn't destroying the foreign shrine/temple and waiting 1 turn remove the culture penalty from that settlement?

The key to pacifying Egypt is the pyramids (memphis). Gives you a huge cultural "leg up" on the "Why can't we all just get along" scale.

You will incur some cultural penalty whenever there are more "native" buildings on the city buildings screen than there are buildings of your culture. The temple carries no "special" penalty in the basic game (and sometimes generates bonuses you'll want to keep)

What Seamus said; the pyrmaid wonder reduces the culture penalty against the Egyptians dramatically for any foreign faction occupying Egyptian land, otherwise its especially hard for the Romans to bring them under control quickly.
