Default Stupid Stuff I’ve Done…so far

    1. OK – so the boiling oil was a complete – and unwelcome - surprise!
    2. …and finding the gates open to a city with stone walls is not always a good thing, not when you forgo building siege equipment – and get jammed up at the gate – see #1 above!
    3. Streets that run along walls KILL – it is possible to lose a sizable chunk of your army before you even get to the center of a town.
    4. So the number indicator on the Mercenary screen is for UNITS – not number of troops available (I used to wonder why 1 and 2 man units were following me around - duh).
    5. How the hell did I miss that port for the city of Syracuse – when playing as the Greek Cites faction?? My faction heir and some valuable troops are dead now for no good reason.
    6. If you send a spy into a city – and he ends up dead – sending another one will only mean he ends up dead! You need to send an Assassin.

I’m sure I will have other “accomplishments” to look back on in the near future.

    Barkhorn.

    My best 'durr':

Playing Julii, I started a war by invading two of Gaul's provinces simultaneously with two 600 man armies. Both had tough fights, but took their objective cities with about 400-450 men left each. The next turn a large (900+) man Gaul army turned up outside the westernmost of the two cities and beseiged it. My eastern army left two Hastati units behind to keep order in their newly taken city and went to aid the other army. The next turn, the eastern city revolted and an 800 man Gaul army materialized inside it. I had to turn my relief force around and next turn had two battles where I was outnumbered 2 to 1.

I made a mental note not to gamble on a 70% happiness rating ever again.

Don't try to negotiate for military access when one of your allies is beating the heck out of the faction you're trying to get military access to.

Hehehe! Yes, been there, except my general was trying to charge out of the gate and flattened some of the routing velites while getting peppered by enemy archers What a disaster.

    1. Attack a British army mainly comprimising of warbands and infantry, on a map that was COMPLETLEY covered in forest, with an army mainly of cavalry.

    2. Attacking an army with a small unit without a general while my main army with the general acts as reinfocements, under AI control, and gets slaughtered. *sigh*.

    3. Sallying forth from a town and having 4 units of routing skirmishers trying to get in the gate with 8 units of infantry trying to get OUT the gate. The enemy had a lot of archers too.

Oh the memories... note to self... if stone gatehouse equals boiling oil.

Do not get in a rush trying to beat the clock, assault immediately because your spy opened the gates, and decide to throw your general in with the rest of the troops.

Their was alot of boiling oil stored in there.

Lost a good general on that one along with a third of my army.
    Sir Robin the Not-quite-so-brave-as-Sir-Lancelot,
who had nearly fought the Dragon of Agnor,
who had nearly stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol,
and who had personally wet himself at the Battle of Badon Hill.

I managed to get a spy through on the third try after the first two died. Yes, I am stubborn.
