    Default Grouping Problems

    Hi all,
Despite the fact I've already mentioned this in one or two threads, i thought I should raise it in it's own thread so everyone can have some input and CA possibly be made aware.

So has anyone else run into the problem with grouped units all receiving the same orders, especially during siege battles? Siege battles seem to be the ones that show this problem most effectively.

My common tactic is to group all units with siege equipment into one group, and all the other units into a second group. I firstly give the first groups' units (ones with the siege equipment) orders to attack the walls, and off they go to do their thing. However if I then select the second group and order them to move up closer to the walls, the first groups' units stop their advance, and turn around to head for the same destination as the second group.

Basically, both groups were receiving the same orders!!!

I find this happens a lot in battles, espcially during sieges. I simply don't use use groups at the moment because of this problem, and it annoys me no end.

Anyone wishing to should try out the above situation... hopefully you'll see what I mean.

Yep, only once though. In 1 battle I grouped the entire army, moved and them into position. When the enemy got closer I needed to cover a flank so I took 3 units, made them a new group and moved them over. They marched over there, turned around and marched straight back towards their old position. I couldn't get them to stay.

Needless to say they didn't fare too well when the enemy hit since they weren't in position and were all spread out. Serves them right for not following orders.

Had you previously grouped the units you were having problems with? Maybe it's that they aren't being reassigned properly, rather than a case of multiple groups getting the same orders.

Ever since I learned the hotkeys I don't use groups anymore but yes, if this problem didnt exist I would use groups now and then.

I think this is the same grouping bug that's been talked about since release day. Should be a fairly well known issue to CA by now I hope.

Unfortuntely not.... I've grouped, ungrouped, regrouped all sorts of things.... the only way I can get them to all follow the group orders is if I select each unit individually while holding CTRL, then issue the order. If I select the group tag then issue the order, I get the aforementioned problem.

Yes, I'm hoping they do know about it, but I'm doing eveything I can to help make sure they don't miss it. It's a mjor gameplay inhibitor for me. If it wasn't for the fact that battles are so fast, I could live with it... but with the battle pace you NEED to use groups, (or prodigious use of the PAUSE key), or you get bashed.

I seldom used pause in any TW game, including RTW now and I don't get bashed, pause actually messes me up . Now that I have both the speed mods (movement and killing speed) it pure, 100%, non-stop bliss

Try them out, they may help you cope with the buggy grouping for a time until a patch hopefully cures it, in addition to making the game much better overall.

I've had this pop up and its extremely annoying.

Basically units that didnt exist in a group magically appear in it when you're issuing orders.

I think the way to get rid of it is to set the offending groups units in question to some kind of "formation" using the formations button.

can you tell me which killing mod you are using - the latest one has small mods for the carthaginians in it as well as different kill rates to previous mods. not sure which is best to use??

have move mod and makes game much battles much better - pause seems generally unnecessary (except to zoom in for a charge of course)

Use the mod in first post on this page. It's adonys's most recent version and fixes some small issues. The desription will tell you all about it.

Thanks mate, I plan to put these mods to use as soon as I'm off work (one more day... then a whole WEEK of continuous RTW! YAY!). I've been watching their development with great interest over the last couple of days, since like you said, it should help me cope with the group mode bugs. Got my fingers crossed.

Have you actually had success using this method? Have you tried it during a siege battle? Do groups then act as individual groups after you do this?? If this is a workaround everyone needs to know about it, so we can at least make SOME use of groups until a patch comes out. I'll try it myself as soon as I can, but that may be a couple of days away.

I really hope that does work!!!
