Will have to go look for that thread... but yes, sometimes it's really stunning. I was assaulting Thessalonica and there was one unit of hoplites who simply were not going down. They had their backs to the wall of one of the buildings and were simply destroying any unit I threw at them. I took a soldier's eye view of this phalanx, amazed at their staying power, and kept it while loosing my single unit of dogs on them.the stand-off I described in my "moments" thread which ended with the war dogs leaping into view to annihilate the enemy;
About two minutes later there's a sudden baying behind my view. Then dogs, and dogs, and dogs! Dogs leaping, dogs pulling down hoplites, dogs snarling. It was simply stunning to watch -- frightening and stunning -- as the phalanx high-tailed it out of there.
Getting that level of detail and believeability at the same time as having 20,000 man battles is quite the achievement.
