Being too lazy at the moment (5:42 a.m.) to open the game and see what exactly those green arrows are, and being conveniently at this thread, I though I might just ask... what are those silly green arrows you speak of? Only thingi that pops up in my mind is when you're pointin where to go? Is that it? Do forgive me... I'm tired.. for I've suffered a great loss... oh Areithous... why....... why..........

If you get rid of the green arrows, is the selected unit still highlighted on the screen? Can't remember at the moment, but do all the troops have a faint glow anyway? Sounds better than the arrers, anyway.

Yes your flag has a glow, and it pulses too. Think the units change a tad.

The men only sometimes becomes brighter, but as a general rule they do. But damn I hate it when I try to select a unit that is mixed with another (in a gate for instance), sometimes I can't see which unit I have slected.

Do as that other person said, go to preferences.txt, and change false to true where it talks about arrows or something.

what are those silly green arrows you speak of?
They're those horrible green arrows that are under each and every soldier.

Oh cool, so can be eliminated? So how can you tell who you've selected? Just by the flag glowing?

    the flag, yes

In MTW you got a solid color banner that "bobbed" when you had them selected - now IIRC they light up and bob.

Problem is , when several units are mixed up in battle , you cannot simply click the banner as often the game decides you meant one of the teeming mass of other soldiers no matter how careful you click .
The arrows have their uses when you select entire groups of units to see where they all are at once in relation to the army as a whole . Makes using the group function more worthwhile {historically , groupings like that would have been typically distinctive visually more often than not by sheild designs or items of dress , so it isn't a stretch to be able to spot them more easily} .
7 out of 10 people like me ,
I'm not going to change for the other three .

I've never had a problem without the green arrows and since all the troops + banner lights up when you select them, it's a no brainer.

plus the green arrows don't help in suspending my disbelief
