Thread: Corruption and Devastation

    Default Corruption and Devastation

Anybody has any idea what's causing these? I think distance to capital and presence of a governor has an effect on corruption but I have some cities with governors quite close to the capital with high corruption while another one with a governor that's further away has none.

I don't know what causes devastation either. Enemy presence in the province? Lots of fighting there? I know that it decreases with time, though.

Normally, devastation is caused by ennemy units on your ground (brigands, invasions, etc.).
That's the burned patch of land you can see.

About corruption, have you per chance bad vices for the governor ?
If violence didn't solve your problem... well, you just haven't been violent enough.

can't really give a perfect answer to your question, but here's what I noticed:
usually, the further away from capital, the greater the corruption. However, as it was pointed out, vices of course influence this.
BUT, don't overlook an important aspect of it: corruption GETS you money too, not only takes it away from you. In fact, I am currently running a profit from corruption alone
(a small one, admittedly, but still, it's not a negative thing).

What does concern me, however, is the fact that I believe corruption is somehow related to the public order (which does make sense, if you think about it). I'm not sure if the influences go both ways or what, so it needs some more looking into.

Don't forget that if the Senate isn't too happy with you and put a Quastor on you, you might get fined heavily for the corruption. At least it looks like that.
You may not care about war, but war cares about you!

speaking of which, does that ever happen when the Quaestor is yours ? and if so, what's the outcome ?
I know people have reported that you can get lucky and "know the investigator", but is that actually related to your presence in the Senate offices, or is it just random ?
