Thread: Limits to Retinues

    Default Limits to Retinues

Anyone else running into a situation where a character can only have 8 retinue members?

Now maybe this is explicitly spelled out in the manual and I just overlooked it.

But it would be nice to be able to dismiss retinue members that are less useful (you know, telling the turncoat greek to go away once you've killed all the greeks so you can make room for a drillmaster or something).

As it is, I have to run around when one of my guys gets near death and load him up with all the useless retinue men I can find (and 'borrow' his more useful retinue members.

Also, I have gotten two unique retinue guys!

Some doctor fellow - basically a super chirugen I think. I was recovering absolutely massive numbers of dead men - high teens or twenties out of a unit 40 strong.

And then aristophanes I think, who says he's really awesome but then just gives a mere +1 to management.

Is it really 8? I thought I was having problems switching them to other leaders when it was 4. I'll have to go back and test that later today I think.

So how do you transfer retinues?
When a fox kills your chickens, do you kill the pigs for seeing what happened? No you go out and hunt the fox.

The limit is 8 on each character.

You can switch them by having both people in the same group. And drag and drop on the other one.

Few things to watch out for.

    Certain people can't be traded.

You can't trade a barbarian one to a roman or vis versa.

The only way to get rid of them is to load them on a guy that is going to die soon of natural causes or otherwise.

On VnV's. There is no limit to how many you can have and there is no limit of types. So you can be stupid and a genius at the same time on the same person.

If you look at the triggers in the txt files several traits can't appear if the opposite one is sufficiently developed

Also, alas, you cannot take retinue from agents and give them to your generals.

No +2 influence translator for my faction leader

(Nor can you give general retinue guys to agents and have the agents ferry them around)

but fortunately you can switch retinues between generals, and between agents ;)
why waste that super-trained pet monkey that gives +2 or +3 to your spying abilities ?
Therapy helps, but screaming obscenities is cheaper.

One thing I have noticed is that a general can not have multiple types of the same retainer. I find often I give a priest to a regular general from my leader since he's going to die soon and before that happens a new priest spawns in the leader.
