Default Neat trick for raising your people faction

So last night, I got the message "THe time is right to attack Rome, your ranking with the populace is high enough blah blah blah" Well, I wasn't prepared for it, so It took me about 10 turns to get all my units gathered up and sent towards rome. By the time I had gotten there it was too late...I had lost a couple of cities due to my troops leaving, and lost my popularity, as a result I couldn't attack any roman fortifications.

A super quick way to gain popularity I found was to just ransack some large population. In my case, I was playing brutii, and I just went nuts on Darcii (sp?). I sent 5 of my 10 army's just pillaging. I'd invade the city, exterminate the population, destroy all the buildings, then move to the next. This was gaining me popularity amongst the mob. The really cool part is that after it was all said and done, the cities filled up with armies full of peasents, so I then went back through with a single army, did another extermination and was able to leave 2-4 town watch in each town with a happy populace (Go figured, I exterminated them all).

I also did something similiar to the cities I was abandoning (my empire had spread all the way to egypt by the time I was powerful enough to take rome). I ended up sacking half of my cities. I knew I was going to lose them to revolt anyway....so I completely stripped them down which also gave me a huge purse to purchase 5 more armies.

This eliminates the hard to control areas furthest from your empirek, gives you a nice fat bank to walk into rome with, and as a kicker...I would wait till the city would revolt, then clear it out with my troops to give them a bit more experience before I hit rome.

Taking rome? hmm... 210BC, bribed an SPQR army full of hastati and principles for about 70k cash, then sent the same army to invade Rome.

As the other factions declared war on me, i simply sent out a few diplomats and bought every 'Roman' province from sicily up towards the germans.

Wasnt cheap, but hey.. i had some 1.5mils cash by the time i was there.

Too bad this was on medium difficulty. I hope the next game will provide more challenge.
