Thread: Forced march

    Default Forced march

Anyone know what this is exactly, and how you go about using it? In certain trait descriptions (Eg Lively) it says 'grants +10% to movement points (allows army to forced march).

Now, sometimes I seem to have seen an army move further than the green line , and yet it's definately not every time. Historically forced march would mean the army marched without pause and usually arrived at the battle tired and weakened. I would assume thats what it does here, but want to know how to go about forcing my troops to march.

Anyone able to shed some light on this?
I was trying to find some help in the ancient military journals of General Tacticus, who's intelligent campaigning had been so successful that he'd lent his very name to the detailed prosecution of martial endeavour, and had actually found a section headed "What To Do If One Army Occupies A Well-Fortified And Superior Ground And The Other Does Not", but since the first sentence read "Endeavour to be the one inside" I'd rather lost heart.

also a drillmaster in your retinue, grants 15% more movement points, the ability to do forced march but -1 or 2 to morale

no idea tho, how it works, is it only romans that can?

Julius Caesar was notorious for sending messengers to announce his approach and would then arrive even before they did! His army moved much faster then others because he was, what is perhaps not widely known fact, a true soldier and a man of his army; he would never demand anything from his soldiers what he himself wasn’t prepared to endure. This Patton-like style was what made him popular among his soldiers.

Regarding from that point of view, forced march could be a Roman thing only, but I actually see no reason why. Perhaps someone who has encountered this trait at nations other than Roman could shed more light on this issue.

well, i'm not even sure that it does anything. It's just what we call it, and the effect is the extra 10-15% movement; since we had to call it something, forced march is an obvious choice. I don't believe it does anything else other than that mentioned extra movement points.
I suppose one can think of it in a similar manner to other VnV's descriptions: just a name to explain the effect of the trait.

    Have you just been dumped?

I ask because it's usually something like that which causes outbursts like this, needless to say I dissagree completely.

You do'nt need to do a thing to make a forced march. it extends your generals' movement plus his troops range by up to 6 inches on a 17 inch monitor. retinues are a bit preprogrammed they have them 1 turn before you get a notification that they have them(at least for forced march). So if you have a general walking the redline it means he has a force march retinue or trait, and it will show you the message next turn. If you are always moving your general in the green zone, I do'nt think there is much chance he'll pick this up but if he constantly has to go places that takes more than 1 turn often this will be picked up.
