Thread: Anyone interested in a Samurai themed R:TW mod?

Default Anyone interested in a Samurai themed R:TW mod?

Yeah, I know there was already a Shogun:Total War, but compared to the new 3D engine of Rome:Total War it hardly compares. I'm going to start making some Samurai skins for Rome:Total War, I hope some other people are interested in a mod like this and maybe we can get a team together. I'm going to keep the goals realistic, since I know most mods never get finished, I don't plan on having a complicated campaign mode(if any) My main goal is pretty much to make a bunch of different anicent Japan themed units, and replace the music possibly. I was thinking the music from "The Last Samurai" would go nicely. However, there is a problem, for the Samurai to actually look descent while fighting, I would need to edit the animations, since Samurai held their sword with both hands, and didn't block with sheilds. If anyone is interested in a Samurai mod please let me know, and we could start working on it together. I do have some modding experience by the way.

By the way, I'm really sorry, I know this is in the wrong forum but I wasn't able to post in the modification forum.

    Here here!

I cant do any moddellnig or hard stuff. But I'll help you with whatever I can with new units (not moddeling historical info, what they should look like etc.) and the historical information. I've studied Japanese history for awhile and i can say with no ego that I'm qualified for the job.

    Count me in!

I hope it would be possible to mod the castle structures for the Japanese style.

I think we will soon see how easy/possible it is to mod the troop images. I think there is more than enough to work with there.

However, it seems we won't have the smooth MP of STW that we enjoyed so much, but the patch may make things very different in that area.

Very good idea for those of us who where hooked by the original.

    Cheers,

Good, I'll want to make this as historically accurate as possible, so I'm glad you're willing to help "The Sword of Cao Cao" However, can anyone help me with getting the skins open in photoshop? I downloaded the PAK extractor, and used it, and I got the directory. I downloaded the DDS opener for Photoshop, but when I got to open the textures, there are only a few there (The Parthian General, and another one) I noticed these ones that I opened are different from the rest, I don't think they are DDS. I dont see "DDS" on my list of files that I can open in Photoshop, so I'm thinking the plug-in didn't work correctly. I have Photoshop 5.5 if that helps. If anyone is willing to help with this, so I can get started on the mod, please contact me by AIM- Cantthinkofasn26 or email- Cantthinkofasn26@aol.com

I for one would LOVE a Samurai mod. Esp if the playing area were greatly increased.

I'm trying to recruit some skinners, modelers and animators, if you guys could try to spread the word that would be great.
