    Default Diplomats: How many?

Every sizable army on the march needs a diplomat attached, apparently.

Add one to every city in a frontier province, too.

Finally, I'm wondering if one should be assigned to the capital of every faction.

    Diplomats make great spies, too.

Open treaty negotiations. Demand a province. Up pops a list of every province in their empire, except for the one where there capital is located. Quit the negotiations without an offer.

That is pretty much what I do. Although I've not been camping one in every capitol, yet. Next campaign I start I'm sending out a bunch of diplomats early to find other factions and establish trade and just hang about in their territories waiting for opportunities to offer alliances and keep an eye on troop strength. I'm not planning to bribe though. It just feels a bit cheesy to do so.

what are the effects of adding a diplomat to your army? Making your army unbribable? harder to assassinate?

Would adding an assassin or spy to your army do the same thing?
