Thread: Brigands

    What makes them appear?

I'm curious as to what makes Brigand armies appear in your territory. It just seems kind of random. Even in very happy areas I have brigand armies constantly sprouting out of nowhere. It just gets kind of tedious having to send armies back and forth across my peaceful areas to crush the brigands that keep springing up.

You get bandits and slave revolts even in happy areas. Someone mentioned seeing an increase in rebels after enslaving a pop in areas that received lots of them(they go to cities with family members as govs).

Can you just ignore them and let them disappear? That's what I do, they seem to just wander off into another faction's territory and get killed or something.

They don't go that for me. I have one bandit army that has been siting in the Sinai for at least 60 years.

Use them as opportunities to groom potential adoptees or husbands. Take out "captain" led armies to subdue, and the guy might make an excellent governor later.

I think this brigand creation might be related to the "unrest" stat, but I haven't tried to quantify it yet. It could also be caused by spies or assassins wandering around the land.

My experience is that my AI controlled faction neighbors have cities that are usually in a place of unrest. However, these annoying rebels go to my territory instead. In my Julii game, Tarentum (Brutii-controlled) grew large and had low public order. Every few turns, a new rebel army would form and march towards Ariminium (my territory). That also happened along my German borders. It's good training in the beginning but became quite tedious in the end.
