    Default Battle of Carrhae

    Hi,

I noticed that the CA has projected this battle, quite different from what really happened.
First of all, the year is wrong, it is not 55 bc, but 53 bc. Then the advance force, actually led by Crassus' son, is true enough, it gets decimated (not only by a tenth, but really destroyed). However, the battle between the parthians and the romans was a genuine battle, were Crassus legion stood firm and no real out come was decided. Untill nightfall, when the romans was forced to withdraw, then the parthians seized the moment and harrassed/attacked their lines and finally killing everyone but 500 and crassus.

What is portrayed in the historical battle, is not near what happend.

a sidenote, that battle is completely impossible to win

Try it on Medium or Easy and basically :
    1. use your cav to chase away the cav archer, dont chase too far, jsut out of bow range, use superior numbers to get the camels and their gen.
    2. Keep 2 units out to deal wiuth flanking attacks
    3. Hope the battle goes your way.

I won it, on my second try. I did a total freaky improvisation there. Looked around, the battle filed. And I figured that hill behind me was perfect to hold defence. So made all my units bar cavalry run up that hill as soon as possible. 1 or 2 cohorts had to fight off the cataphracts but being a sivler (or gold?) star units, they put up a good fight. Meanwhile my general (very powerful it seems) charged the cataphracts who were right at the bottom of the hill - it was a fast and easy affair - their general was dead before they knew what was coming. I was lucky 2nd time around to get most of my troops up on that hill.. Well, a few cohorots, and the shameful remnants of cavalry who had to fight their way through on the top. But while he was on the way there, my cohorts were routing the poor horse archers who had to engage because they either couldn't shoot up the hill or used up the arrows. now it was very close, I think it was luck, but I concentrated on killing off HA general unit - after he was dead, and it happened very early = his unit was sitll full = the fight turned into one routing disaster for the people in pink pijamas. I won and it was fantastic.

My guess is it was a fluke, because that doesn't look like suggested strategy, but it was fun to try and when it actually started to pay off - who knows, try it if all fails. :)

Its about as impossible as the Roman vs Gauls one, when you need to ram a fort gate and they come crashing down on you from the sides. Geor... something

lol, I haven't won a single historical battle yet. Maybe it's time to tone it down to medium or easy.

I wonder how true their historical battles are. I decided to fight Arminius at Teutonberg, and well...
