RTR Mod--Council

Hello one and all.
I have just recently heard of the RTR mod and i'd like to know a couple of things before handing my 56k'er the almighty task.
What kind of unit sizes are used?
For example some mods i know of use tiny, piddly, pooncy units. I like big fat armies worthy of my empire, standard RTW 'Huge' units are acceptable. What are they like in RTR on 'huge' setting?

Im using the Cherry Vanilla mod and it makes the AI MUCH better than it was, what is it like in RTR?

Unit sizes are the same as vanilla RTW for the most part. Some units have been reduced in size to balance their effectiveness - equites come to mind. They are only size 36 using "large" settings - not sure about huge.

As for the AI, I've found it to be better than regular RTW, but cannot compare to CVP since I've never used it. One thing RTR does is reduce the number of stars that your generals gain - this helps the AI since the AI often attacks with captains instead of generals, so the player doesn't gain the huge advantage of having a 10 star general facing a captain. I rarely get my generals above four or five stars in RTR.

If you want to try it but aren't sure you're going to like it, make a copy of your data folder prior to installing the mod, then if you are dissatisfied you can revert back to the old version.

EDIT: Also with a 56k modem you would probably be better off using a download manager if you decide to download the mod.

Well I'm only a consumer of these mighty mods.(though I have dabbled in making a few minor mods myself)

I'm playing as Gaul with some{soft} iron man rules (no map selling , only bribing rebels, no reloads) on vh/vh , RTR 5.0 and its given a leash of life to the game for me.

IMHO there are many things to saviour in RTR some of which are probably present in other mods(RTR incorporates many peoples best efforts). One I really liked is the reskinned Romans. Another is the reworked building tree , more logical than vanilla.

Play is more challenging in my Gaul scenario and about to be hammered by the Romans so at this early stage (264) things are a bit hairy and fun.

On the maybe negative , so called fantasy and overstrong units have been toned down or eliminated( like dogs and pigs) so if you enjoy a more fantasy type battle then you'd be disappointed. I think there is definitely room for a similar Unrealism Totalwar Mod( hint) which would be similar in scope to RTR but takes this unreal approach. RTR mission is to be Realistic so think on that.

So in summary I'd definitely recommend it if you have played a few games on Vanilla mode and looking for something else.
