Just a little idea....trying to find good resources on the `German` tribes.

I always wondered if the "Germania" tribes pre-empire were the same in the late empire, namely the Franks, Saxons, Angles, Thuringians, etc. Btw, were the Goths, Vandals, and Lombards considered Germanic or Asiatic, since they came from the Steppes instead of Northern Europe?

Don't know about the Vandals and Lombards, but I know the Goths are considered Germanic. They originated on Gotland (Sweden) and then moved south and east before going west and south again.

Very nice design Dimeolas!

I see, that makes sense now. I always wondered how they can be Germanic if they came from the Steppes.

All germanic tribes came from the steppes 1,5k B.C.
Lombadrds and vandals are germanic aswell.
And the goths aint named goths cuz they lived on gotland, Gotland is named Gotland cuz some of the goths moved there, while some stayed in russia and some on the eastcoast of sweden.

It is more likely that they originated in Götaland in Sweden proper, and then migrated to Gotland and Poland (from where they moved southeast). Gotland had lousy farmland and couldn't have been able to sustain a fairly large population. Possibly a population of 10,000 could have lived there. And naturally a larger part would stay home when the migrations started, so 3-4,000 would migrate. A migration? No... that would hardly have had any impact at all.

You are both right and halfright.

All Germanic peoples did originate on the Steppes. They moved out with the Aryans (the fairskinned people that conquered nothern India, you can still find them in India), just in the other direction. But it doesn't seem the Goths actually stayed on the steppes in any numbers but rather moved on to Sweden. There they stayed some 1000-1500 years until it was time to move again. This time they moved south and east, crossing over Poland until they reached the Black Sea. From where they were kicked out by the Huns. The rest is history.
