The graphics for combat in R:TW is absolutely amazing! I can't even look at the graphics for M:TW becasue they are far to inferior to Rome. I think they should release a Special Edition for Medieval that uses the Rome engine for the combat system. I don't care too much about the campaign map. All I'm saying is that they should change the battle graphics. I really want to see full 3D Templar Knights charging into the flanks of Saracen infantry and sending them flying through the air.

As many people are crazy about using the RTW engine for MTW, I would not say it is impossible that there will be an MTW 2 featuring Romes Campaign Map and Battle Graphics plus Siege options.

I think the Medieval Period fits this engine even better than the ancient one.

Sure, they will do an Expansion for Rome first, but who knows? I do not know if they assume that releasing a somewhat improved MTW would bring them money for the effort: They would have to render quite a lot of Knights, Men-at-Arms etc...

There are modding possibilities, only time will tell if CA decided to make an expansion or something or someone mods an MTW like game in RTW.

I could care less, I stopped caring about graphics a while ago. Medieval is perfect, messing it up by putting in the unresponsive Rome engine would not be a step up. The graphics in Rome are good, but every single individual aspect of the tactical engine is a step backwards. Don't mess with a good thing.

I wouldn't play an imitation mod of MTW, when instead I could play the real thing, complete with a functional battle system.

Agree with you there, a MTW2 would be awesome, with the city system instead of the provinces, better merc system, and instead of the senate you could have the papacy dishing out orders to Catholic factions!

I'm not interested. RTW plays like a rts, MTW plays like a wargame. I prefer wargames.

I don't think the Total War series' campaign style was good for the medieval period at all. I mean world conquest in medieval Europe? C'mon. Any medieval game with no vassal management can't be realistic(Although it did have better crusade system than Crusader Kings). That is not to say the battles weren't cool. We need periods that more fit the "Total War" concept, like Warring Nations Total War(China, 300BC), Napoleon Total War, American Revolution Total War, or Even Mongol Total War. Anything period where infantry formed up into formations will do.

American Revolution Total War is a completely stupid idea, because there were only 2 factions and it almost exclusively involved gunpowder. Besides with all the dodgy american accents in the voice acting for Rome Total War (The day is oouurrrrss etc) you'd think you were playing it just now anyway. Just close your eyes

Actually i think this engine's missile system is perfect for all gunpowder battles, as long as it's in an era where infantry fight in strict formation. If you played Napoleon Total War mod, you'd know how awesome it is.

Actually, the American Revolution was part of a larger World War, with Britain, France and Spain being the major players, but also involving Russian and the other European powers. Do the homework.

So from a TW perspective, the period encompassing the American Revolution would be eligible, as long as the focus was not solely upon the Revolutionary Colonies of America, and frankly would encompass the Napolenoic wars and the decline of Spain.

As far as the subject of this thread, I GREATLY prefer the MTW Battle engine, and would like to see the RTW's Campaign Map married to the MTW Battle Engine, at least then I could adjust the Camera to look UPHILL!

IMHO, first we have to correct RTW's gameplay which is deficient to say the least. After the gameplay, the Historical accuracy issue. Then I think a lot of modders (including myself) will be delighted to aproach a MedievalMOD for RTW. Time will tell...

Well then it would be called something else! If you propose american revolution total war then I can't be blamed for imagining it focused solely on the american revolution. It's a stupid idea anyway.

I would love to see a Mediaeval game using the Rome engine for both the campaign map & the battles. It would need to be tweaked to allow prisoners again, but having the city management, seasonal turns, papal missions, the ability to control the order of battles & to maneuver more than one army into a battle on the campaign map would be wonderful.

Plus, Rome handles my hardware well, where M:TW doesn't anymore.

could not agree more. I don't want to go back to MTW as RTW has the potential to be so much better once it is fixed either by CA or the mod community.

Although I would like MTW2 as well. hell and Shogun 2 - I'd play em all.

Wishing it is that I am…

I wish CA would make a true Wargamers game, something totally battle oriented. A “true” Total War game!

Basically the RTW engine with “Multiple Era Selection”. Thirteenth century Japan, Medieval Europe, the Ancient Mediterranean (as they already have all the research done), soon including the Napoleonic era, and American Civil War era expansion packs, and more, and more, etc..

What I’m talking about would be only from a field commanders perspective, a multiplayer’s dream come true. Leave the campaigns to other releases, and make money there as now. This would be a spin-off venture.

Are there enough multiplayers to make it worth while? Maybe not at the moment. This is a market that would be created, by creating the “Game of Games”. A never ending string of releases of warfare from all ages, to an ever increasing cult of would be generals.

Wishing it is that I am…
