Default Protectorate? .. best protect your wallet.

    A barbaric identity theft.
This must be a bug or this is not explained. Got Gemania to agree to be a protectorate after surrounding the animals, having them down to one little town, then offering them some map. They accepted and the next turn my pot went from over 300k+ to 72k with no trace in my treasury report.
News came the next turn that Germania was now the richest faction with a laugh in the background. I got jacked!!!

Money was missing when i made Carthage a protectorate also.

    .."whats in your wallet?"

Yeah I put Thrace in Protectorate status and somehow lost 15k and their economy is skyrocketting. I think I make a bit more through trade with them but I don't make anymore from Tributes or Taxes from them - if I do it's very small compared to the amount I lost that turn.

I wonder if the game expects that you'll levy a demand of Regular Tribute the entire time that you've got a state under Protectorate status??? It seems like this is a consistent problem, we need some clarification.

I wonder what a protectorate is good for.
So far they never agreeg to become one, I once besieged the two last cities of the Thracians and asked one of their family members who was not in a city to become a protectorate, they disaggreed, I killed their leader, they were crushed and that was it. I recognized that the enemies always feel superiour(at least from what they say) and that they often demand a lot of money from me even if they are not in a position to do so, they are way too aggressive. The only constant ally I have in my current greek campaign are the scythians, but they are at war with noone since years, all the others break alliances as soon as they have the opportunity, even if that´s completely stupid. And i play on medium/medium, I wonder if it´s possible to be just neutral to any faction on hard?

Can't believe we still don't really know what that Protectorate thing means in game....

I've asked about this before, and gotten no real answers. Even Tamur's most excellent Diplomacy Guide only states that "There is not enough player experience with this option to know much more." But it's clear that you make no money from creating a protectorate, and that becoming a protectorate is great fun.

We'll just have to keep playing and trying things.

Never went after a protectorate since I did'nt want to get robbed but does it allow you shared vision with your protectorate? I'm guessing a protectorate gives you automatic military access rights also.

As Julii, I got the Dacians to be my protectorate, and then in the next turn the Brutii attacked them, which caused the Dacians to cancel their alliance and military access with me. So now I have no idea what exactly the relationship is between my faction and Dacia. Only three turns have elapsed since then. I'll report if anything interesting happens.

Fighting with the Egyptians fields little results, my faction leader barely escaping with his life, I have the Pharaoh sandwiched between my armies.

So I crush him, he grudgingly accepts protectorate. What does this entail? I don't plan on staying his friend, just until my Iberian conquerors reach the Libyan shore.

Yeah, there's somethign deffinately wrong here

Click that ^ it's a picture of my financial rankings next to my Protectorate - Thrace. Now you can see a notable - VERY notable - increase after I become their Protectorate. Perhaps they are reaping all of my benefits of my trade as well as the trade from everyone who they have asked for trade rights. I'm at war with half of the map it seems (unprovoked besides Rome). I'm still confused.

I think it is trade, protectorate is essentially all possible treaties rolled into one.

Dont' you see a problem there? It's rising by the same ratio every turn!!! It's skyrocketting off the map! Have you EVER seen anyone with that much money at this stage in teh game? I have one of the best economies and I"m so much lower - plus if it was trade wouldn't it level off after a few turns and not continue like that?

I think this is a huge bug...

This will be fixed in the 1.2 patch.

Thanks Jerome for the feedback. For now I guess I"ll just have to invade Thrace to steal back all of that bug money. Muahaha.
