    Default Squalor

Hey guys, I have a settlement with 105% squalor. I've built the highest level of governor building I could, as well as I've built the awesome temple to ceres, an arena, and the public bath. However, it seems my squalor keeps rising every year. How do I get rid of this?

What is the population of your city? Have you been exicuting populations, enslaving them or just simply taking them? Do you have an influintial governor. All of these things must be answered before we can help you with a squalor problem.

You don't get rid of it, you control/offset it:

    1) Destroy other cultures temples, build your own, it eliminates unhappiness due to cultural differences

    2) Put good governors in big cities to keep the people happy

    3) Keep an adequate garrison on hand to repress the people

    4) Build all health improvements

    5) Use a balance of taxing and circuses/games to keep the people happy and population growth down - keep taxes high to keep population growth slow or stable, use circuses to keep them happy with the high taxes

    6) Make your capital your most central city to minimize the penalty due to distance from the capital.

    That will do it.

If you've built the last base city upgrade already, destroy the Ceres temples and replace them with something else. Ceres increases population growth, which increases maximum population, which increases squalor. Try not to build too many farm upgrades, especially on settlements where you have high base population growth.
