Personally i play on default (large), as i feel this is how the game is meant to be played and it reduces balence issues (MTW experience speaking there)

Default is large?
I swear default on my comp was medium. I play it on large.
Cheese. Cheese attracts the beer-filled. The hungry. The not-so-hungry. The famished. The sammiches. Cheese. Cheese is my ally!
default is medium
huh? i dunno, i got 80 men in a unit and it says large in the options........i never touched the unit size after cavaly got way too powerful in MTW on huge.
I did hit 'performance settings' so maybe that changed it?!

I think it autodetects your computer's graphics capabilities and sets the settings to that, although you can change it. Mine has been large (eg: 81 men Hastati) since the beginning.

I play on huge. It adds a lot more depth to the game, as the death ratio remains the same, but it instantly means a lot more men. Now try it with a barbarian faction like germans, where your biggest city has about 3000 men at start, and you'll soon value even the cheapest peasant (as it means 240 of your precious men).
Other than that, it just looks nice to have large armies running around the screen.
There is something bad about it too: the rather weak pathfinding has real trouble handling huge units. In cities this can get especially painful and frustrating.
I agree csebal. Playing with huge unit sizes just feel much more epic.
Despite that, I actually play with large unit sizes. Mainly because some AI factions (especially the Germans) simply can't control their economy when starting with that many soldiers, which really unbalances the game. Hope CA fixes this soon...
I play with huge too. Makes the battles seem more epic. Only problem is indeed the pathfinding. Combine that with my laziness and I only get battles in castles. Why?
Because I bribe every army on the world map. Kinda lazy but yeah. It works. That does make every battle seem like a disaster though. Just trying to get a unit of equites (or anything else for that matter) to stand in a double line formation within a street is a disaster. Sometimes the unit turns around and tries to find a way on the other side of the city!!
If there's one thing they should fix. It's this.
Medium. I'd rather have more effects than more soldiers.
I started my campaign with medium setting but the decided to change it to large. I'm still producing troops with medium numbers but custom battles are large.
Huge, cause my hardware can just handle it with everything on medium.
If you havin' skyrim problems I feel bad for you son.. I dodged 99 arrows but my knee took one.

I think you need to start a new campaign for the large unit size to take effect.Originally Posted by Cebrus

Tried to edit my last post to say this but there seems to be no option for this.
I usually play on large. I have wanted to try huge, but as i only had 256 MB of ram until now, i figured i should stick with large.
I play on huge, when you play on huge, when you train a unit in a town with under 8000 people, its likely to subtract people from that town even after your growth is taken into account, on medium, you can build and build and it wont effect it much at all.
I pledge allegiance to the underworld One nation under dog,There of which I stand alone,A face in the crowdUnsung, against the mold
Without a doubt
Singled out
The only way I know
Stepped out of the line,Like a sheep runs from the herd
Marching out of time,To my own beat now
The only way I know
One light, one mind,Flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts
"For crying out loud" she screamed unto me
A free for all,Screw 'em all
You are your own sight
I want to be the minority,I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority,I want to be the minority
Small for me, but not from choice. It's all my old box will run.
I'm quite looking forward to upgrading so I can try large or huge size units. It just doesn't feel right to be fielding Hastati in tiny blocks, or to see small gangs of hoplites marching around. Still, it probably makes city assault maneuvering easier.
Huge but careful with seiges&formations!
the defalt is normal on normal vidio quality and large and high vidio quality.
