    Question Where's the Roman spearmen??

Maybe I'm just a moron, but after the Marian Reform, why doesn't any of the Roman factions have a spearmen? And no, Town Watch don't count and neither do those useless Auxilia's.

Auxilia are fine. If a general is near to rally them and some cavalry and/or as support, they are fine. They are acceptable on their own. They are the only spear unit after the reforms, anyhow. I find that mercenary hoplites are commonly available where strong spear units are needed, though I have never tested them systematically against auxilia, so I might be wrong there.

Bah, legionaries perform better in about every situation better than Auxilia. I never made anymore after several disappointments using them.
Some fought for power. Some for glory. Others fought for much more...

They're not really meant to fight with. That's why they're called Auxillia. If I have to use them, it's flank protection or to slow down a cavalry charge.
