Thread: Admiral's command star?

    Default Admiral's command star?

Hi guys.I'm playing the Carthage and I had several naval battles with the Scipii.I notice that some of their fleets have command star (about two or three) but I cant get one.I have one fleet which won five or more battles but it doesnt gain any command stars. Any idea? One last thing I want to ask: in siege battle can I use onagers or balista against siege towers? Those big guys dont seem good to me.

My first game with the Brutii I basically had one fleet in the Eastern Med. that was totally dominant.. there must have been 50 naval battles. I made sure to keep the same Admiral when merging fleets (so that hopefully he would get a command star) and no luck.

Last night, I start a Julii game, first naval battle.. I get a command star. I do not understand it but it happens.

And as far as attacking siege towers: It is much easier to use flaming arrows on the siege engines, sappers, and rams. I have not been able to put siege equipment on the walls (is it possible in later stages of wall development?) and it is really hard to aim for the towers when you can only place your siege equipment in certain parts of the city (roads, small squares).

The only command stars my entire Julii navy managed to get was through retinue members, one for 'Shipwright' and two for 'navigator'.

They were also not exchangable, and to be frank didn't seem to make that much difference. The shipwright was got twice, seemingly random as one wasn't even in a fight that season, and navigator was on my oldest fleet, but might also be random.
I was trying to find some help in the ancient military journals of General Tacticus, who's intelligent campaigning had been so successful that he'd lent his very name to the detailed prosecution of martial endeavour, and had actually found a section headed "What To Do If One Army Occupies A Well-Fortified And Superior Ground And The Other Does Not", but since the first sentence read "Endeavour to be the one inside" I'd rather lost heart.

Playing as Carthage i have only one fleet with a 3 star Admiral. Before him i had none from the campaigns start despite regularly kicking the Romans around the med. This is my first rated Admiral in 100 years of campaign time.

I've fought a lot of sea battles, most of my ships are silver chevroned and quite a few are triple gold chevron. I've only ever gotten two off 1 star retinue members. Never an admiral with a command rating, I not sure that such a thing is possible.

Thanks for your information.I dont know why CA made such a thing. Is this a bug or there is something about naval combat that we dont know?
I have heard a captain can become family member if he is victorious in battles. Is that true? One of my captains won in 5 battles, but he is still a captain, nothing more .(I auto resolve all of his battles)

Yes, captain can get promoted but auto resolving will make it less likely. They tend to get promoted for heroic victories, and they tend only to happen when directed personally.

Looking at the triggers to gain the Sailor trait, any battle won by a fleet commanded by an Admiral should add 1 threshold point, with 1 point giving Naval Command 1, 2 points giving Naval Command 2, 3 points giving Naval Command 3, etc.

If the points aren't being awarded, I thought of a few possibilities:
    1) Is the fleet carrying a leader or another type of agent? There might be a bug where the passengers get processed before the admiral for possible event triggers, effectively masking him, and since only admirals can be given points towards the Sailor trait no points get awarded.
    2) The Sailor trait has a Characters value of family, perhaps this should be admiral, the same as other agent-only traits are assassin, diplomat and spy as appropriate.

Both are easy to test, go fight a naval battle with no passengers for case 1, and edit the export_descr_character_traits.txt file for case 2. In the latter case, Landlubber would also need to be amended.

My fleet doesnt have any passengers.I fought about ten more battles and the fleet still hasnt a command star.

I have noticed that cities with acadamies or scriptorium produce more admirals with stars. I had a couple of cities as the Julii which produces several two star admirals (through retinue), and both cities had scriptoria I think. They also had the ship tech building built all the way out (forgot the name of the building, not port and not shipwright), perhaps that was the factor? Other than those two cities, I don't think I've ever gotten stars for admirals.

As the Greeks, I managed to get 1 star after having a set of ships from the very early part of the game, just after the half way point in the game, (when the town sizes really started to get revolting ), and after upgrading a shipyard in a large city I started having 2 stars fleets churned out automatically. Soon as I get home I'll check the cities buildings & see if there's any correlation.

Actually, I had another one last night, early on in a campaign as the Brutii. A one-star, from a shipwright with no academy building.
Perhaps stars are random, with acadamies giving a greater probablility?
