Red face Bridge bug and River bug pics.

    All from the same battle:

Here my faithful warhounds who are so well trained they can tell friend from foe in the heat of combat run into the river head first... Fetch odie fetch...

Some miraculously actually take the bridge, and get slaughtered by some Noble Cavalry on the other side. I guess they wanted to kill the doggies in the drink also cause when they counter charged in they went!

And finally a group of barbarian cavalry get by and start running along to river to route. I send my trusty mercenary cavalry to chase em down but instead they run into the river and take a bath.

And there you have it. QA at its finest.

Hmmm. This was also in the demo.

Has this bug been reported yet?

    I hope CA fixes this.

What i noticed: you are playing on huge unit size setting. I suspect, the game was designed to run with the default or large setting... The bridges, streets, plazas, etc. do not scale to the unit size so I have had much buggier behaviour observed at larger unit sizes (for example, larger size units would just sit on each other's footprint in the town square rather than spreading out).

Good observation. Been playing on the default settings and these problems don't exist.

That point is null, the units are supposed to form up and cross the bridge in file regardless of unit size. Even if you used the smallest unit size setting and spread them in a thin line they would do the same behaviour. And regardless, if CA made Huge unit size an option they should have coded all aspects of the game to support that for proper QA.

I've seen this before... one time one of my hastati decided he'd take a dip in the river while all of his friends were killing and getting killed on the bridge. And I was playing on default mode, too, so I guess this may be amplified by unit size, but still occurs regardless.

I'm using the default settings, I think (80 hastati). Here's a snippet I tossed off recently in another thread. (It is now a multi-threaded snippet)

In my first bridge battle I just sat there laughing while the gauls went swimming. (anybody seen RRRrrrr!!! ?) Then I tried to counterattack, and a whole unit of dogs just dove in and snuffed it. A) dogs can swim B) there used to be a ford before roads were built C) why didn't they even try to get on the bridge?

Yes they do. I had the same problem with the dogs.

I think this bug occurs when you target an enemy unit on the bridge. Your unit will not reform to meet the bridge width but some will be on the bridge, others feed the phiranna that is in every river in the game.

I find targeting the farside works to force troops to fight a bridge battle.

I watched a gaul army die trying to kill a unit I stuck on the bridge by losing 2/3rd of the unit to the river. I have not attempted to repeat this manuever by will try tonight as I often stop on bridges. The AI then sends out the garrison and attacks me.

I used one bridge in SE France as Julii to kill at least 5000 gauls over a series of battles. Every other turn 1000-1600 gauls would show up to attack. Most would die, about 1/3rd would not attempt the crossing and retreat. I did not have much Cav to persue and sometimes they stop to engage my now way over extended cav.

I have only played on large unit settings (the default size).

BTW - I highly recommend getting the Total Realism Mod.
