    Default Guide to Temples

Thought it might be of use to have a comprehensive list of all the temples for each faction. For me it's highlighted that some factions really get relatively poor temples, the Julii compared to the other two playable Roman factions for example. Plus I found what I think is an errored stat for the Pontus Large Temple of Zeus.

EDIT: I've added the non-priest ancilliaries that can be gained at the various temples. Any Temple/Sacred Grove level temple will provide the appropriate priest. Some ancilliaries will not be available to the faction/culture that can actually build the temple, but I've included them since the temple could be captured by a faction that can access them.

Check out the Panatheon to Jupiter for the Julii. 10% less of a bonus to law than the previous temple. Maybe that should be 25% bonus to law?

what would be a good idea is if we started to add vices/virtues received from different types of temples too :)

That +4 bonus for trade with the Awesome Temple of Milqart........is that an extra 4 items for trade,a 4% trade increase or a fourfold increase in trade(here's hoping).
    Excellent guide by the way.

Yah, another of the oddities, it effects the Panatheon of Athena for the Greeks as well - I think it's a case of somebody at CA cut'n'pasting the stats from another Panatheon and then not thinking through the consequences, there's signs elsewhere of that with units only buildable by factions that can't even build that temple.

As I said in ym first post, in my opinion, overall the Julii get shafted on temples compared with the Brutii & Scipii. The value of the Bacchus temples is reduced by the tendancy for leaders in the city to generate bad vices - and the Scipii can match it's order bonuses until Panatheon level with Saturn - and they're the only playable Roman faction without temple bonuses to weapons, armour and/or experience. I know some players like the Brutii for the military benefits of their temples, but I think overall they're edged out by the Scipii with Vulcan and Neptune, with Saturn in non-troop producing cities for the greater order bonuses.

I'm not sure, to be honest. The in-game temple descriptions just say "Increase in tradeable goods" whether the bonus is 1 or 4.

Usually 1 corresponds to a 5% change. So +4 to trade should result in a 20% increase of the base trading value (bonuses are generally not compounded). This is something I'm looking into at the moment though.

    Excellent guide, BTW.

Don't take it as gospel. Trade income is a prickly pear indeed, and as with many things in RTW, trade bonuses could operate in a weird way, contrary to how you would believe they should.

Each market upgrade gives +1 to tradeable goods, too. The trade temples function just like market upgrades do, then. The trade caravan line gives +2 for the first building, with a subsequent +1 for the next 2. The port line actually gives +1 in trade income for every upgrade, too.

Awesome list, Sinner. I had been hoping for precisely this, for the Romans (past Julii), and here you listed every single one! But pray tell - why would a 'sinner' feel compelled to look into Temples?

Well, as the saying goes: keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.

And thanks for spotting the typo, RK. I knew something was wrong, but I just couldn't see it until your PM, then "Doh! Of course!"

Just wondering, have you checked the stats of the various priests that each temple can add to your retinue. They're quite different from each other.

Can this guide be expanded to include the priests of each temple type? It would be handy to know what each one does.

I know the Priest of Mars gives +3 command when Attacking, not sure about the others.

IIRC, Ceres gives +1 to farm output and +1 to influence (or management, can't remember which). Jupiter and Zoroastra give +1 to all three attributes. I'm not sure of the other ones.

I made a PDF file out of all these statistics (of course with credits to Sinner in the file), which has 1 row for each temple. It's 7 pages long, and only 132kb. I don't have a hosting place so if anyone want to host it, please give me a PM or email.

Maybe it also could use an intro, but after yesterday night and today copy-pasting and formatting so many excel cells, I can't see excel for a while...

Please post any errors as well, so I can correct them.

    Thank you for the list!

Can anyone explain what are the difference and benefits between:

Public order bonus due to happiness
Public order bonus due to law

For valor is a gift And those who posses it
Never know for certain They will have it

Law also reduces the amount of corruption in a city, plus law temples may give access to extra ancilliaries sometimes.

    Ah ha!

    Sorry to bother you, but....

Why would you want to reduce corruption (I know there's a reason)? Corruption adds to income, so what's the negative?

    Thanks.

There is positive and negative corruption. Look at your settlement scroll, if you see corruption icons (hands with some money in it), then ... well you have corruption then, and building temples with law will reduce that amount (I think it was about 50 per 5% law, but I haven't tested this yet).

Sidenote: I uploaded the PDF guide at the NET:
    http://www.twcenter.net/downloads/db/?mod=107

It was a lot of copy-pasting, so there may be one or two mistakes in it. If you spot one, please tell me. Thanks .

I personally have only noticed negative corruption, Tora (it's on the bottom of the income line)...

if you're playing Julii, here's how you might approach it...

Both Bacchus and Jupiter give equal Public Order at each level except Pantheon, BUT Jupiter does it via half of it due to law. At the Pantheon level, however, both give 1% growth and 10% law BUT Bacchus gives 50% happiness while Jupiter gives 35%. As a strategy, then, you should go with Bacchus close to home, where corruption is low, and Jupiter elsewhere, unless the province has sucky income. (Maybe this means 'inland' like in MTW, but just what is good and bad for income isn't totally clear to me yet, nor which provinces.) This is assuming you don't want growth; if you do, go with Ceres... you can use Ceres when small (when it can otherwise take a long time to build up population AND only a few peasants are needed to max the garrison Public Order), then trash the Ceres and go with one of the other two when you get to say 6k or whatever.

    Some thoughts
