    Default Transgression?

Hey I had a real funny moment in my Briton Campaign. The Gauls accused me of a Trangression and said I had deeply offended them... Yet I hadn't done anything against them. I was Allied with the Gauls with Trade Rights & My Troops were all firmly within my borders (not one army set foot in their territory)

What the hell are they on about? All I did was sit in my borders and kill bandits and save up cash...

My guess is that it's the old problem:

"COMPUTER NO LIKE HUMAN! COMPUTER KILL HUMAN!"

no true campaign AI - just pretenders which will eventually attack you for no reason.

Remember The Wedding Singer when that old guy goes up and punches the guy? Adam Sandler turns to him and says "What are you doing?!" Yeah - it's that kind of thing.

Sorry couldn't do that, the Britons don't get any Naked Fanataics...

Anyway those Gauls were funny, they decided to Blockade Londinium to kickstart a war, thereby breaking the alliance and proving to the world that they were untrustworthy and deserving of some serious butt-kicking...

My Warriors have now taken most of Gaul, and all they have left is that province in Iberia and those two near the Julii on the other side of the alps. In their desperation they have Allied with the Julii, but I am already Allied with SPQR and the Scipii.

Stupid Gauls, they should know not to mess with us!

I sold my map, as Brutii, to the Macedonians for 1,000 denarii. Next turn I tried selling it to them again at the same price, just to see if I could. Yes, I could and my treasury swelled happily. Instantly I got a message from the senate telling me my transgrassions would not be tolerated while this sound clip of some chap being beaten played in the background. I blinked in bafflement, then decided it must be because I had swindled my allies, the Macedonians by selling them a map which had not changed because I was not exploring. To test my theory I tried selling them my still unchanged map again next turn for the same price. They brought it and nothing happened. I sold the Macedonians my map for 1,000 denarii each and every turn until war was declared, some 20 turns.

    Very odd.

Hey Emp, I always loved playing England the most in MTW. How are they in RTW? The reasons I liked them were their best strategic possition on the map and lots of cool special units (Hobilars, cheap Archers, Clansmen, Kerns, Gallowglasses, Billmen, Longbowmen, Irish Infantry...

I've been lothe to play them yet in RTW because they get chariots which, regardless of how overpowered I hear at the least the Egyptian ones are, I just don't get worked up about chariots, they just seem pansy to me. Do the Brits get anything else cool, or are they just Gauls with Chariots?

Servius1234, ok the Brits are more fun than the Gauls I find. Sure they do have chariots (which are rather flimsy to tell the truth, I have lost a few Generals when i tried to use them like cavalry, so I always buy some Barb cav Mercs).

They also have a great element of fun with Woad Warriors, Slingers (no archers), Head Hurlers and Druids and of course War Dogs...

The Light Chariot archers themselves are very fun to use and are not really overpowered in my opinion. You can have some great fun chasing down routers with them since they knock everybody over and shoot them down with impunity.

They also have the possibility to make it rich with access to sea trading, which can be very profitable after you build up (you have it poor to start with until you attack Gaul).

In My Brutii campaign the Britons put up more of a fight than the Gauls and I lost an army of a few Early Cohorts to their Woad Warriors and Chosen Swordsmen when they attacked me.

They are a good faction to play as...

I started a game with them this morning. I also like that their tech tree is small, so I don't have to spend a long time constantly upgradeing cities and units. I'll hit my developmental peak earlier, which will allow me to focus more attention on the actual strategy and combat. I still miss Billmen, Longbowmen, and some Feudal Knights though.

Sounds like a prelude to a sneak attack. I'd be prepared for one.

Yes, I think this aspect might be a bit bugged and can be easily exploited. I've decided to only sell my map info once per faction unless I've explored a lot of new territory.

I did have Pontus actually offer trade rights AND map info to me as Seleucids.
    Rome Total War, it's not a game, it's a do-it-yourself project.
