Thread: How do you fight in the forest?

Default How do you fight in the forest?

I'm playing the Julii and trying to take over Gaul. Because of this, I'm often forced to fight in forested terrain, and that is a pain. Not because my troops get ambushed, but because I lose track of units and get confused. If I want to follow their action, I need to focus in close, which is OK;the trouble is trying to get the bigger picture, because zooming away from the action results in nice 3D pictures of tree branches. Is there anything I can do about this, or should I start again as the Scipii and do most of my fighting in the desert?
You take a chance getting up in the morning, crossing the street, or sticking your face in the fan.

    Lure them out with infantry

Note that if you are on the defensive you can deploy in clear ground and the enemy will attack you, they will also do this if they have a huge advantage.

But you could also try not to fight near forests :)

If you can't avoid fighting Gaul in the forest (which puts you at a high disadvantage) then all you can hope to do is group your army into a few groups and organise it in flanks so you can remember where each flank is by number - or just scroll down and watch your whole army underneath the threes. It's a lot harder, so I would agree that you should just withdraw off any maps which FORCE you to fight in the Forests.... use the campaign map to work for you

Thats the nature of northern europe, so you either learn to deal or fight in the deserts or Greece and asia minor.

I found using the zoom levels on the radar map helped, plus a lot of rapid "flying" up and down the line at low level to keep on top of things helped. ONce I decided it was a feature of North Europe and something to overcome rather than an annoying bug I coped better.

Others have posted tactical and strategic suggestions. Dogs work well in woods as they go from fight to fight.

When a fox kills your chickens, do you kill the pigs for seeing what happened? No you go out and hunt the fox.
