    Default autocalc results a bit...weird

Does anyone else get weird autocalc results from time to time? I had one playing as the Greek Cities on Hard/Hard huge unit sizes where the Roman force (4 Hastati, 1 archers, 2 velites and 2 generals bodyguard, general had 4 stars) besieged Syracuse where I had 3 Armoured Hoplites, 1 mercenary Hoplite, 1 archer, 1 peltast, 4 hoplites, 2 militia hoplites and one generals bodyguard (3 stars), all at experience level one. I sallied immediately and did an autocalc, and the result was a draw (as you dont usually suffer defeat from sallying), yet I only killed just over 100 Romans for the loss of over 1000 of my own troops! I have found that autocalc results versus Romans often give results hugely skewed in the Romans favour. Does anyone know the formula used to work out autocalc results? I thought it was basically attack/defense values of units, plus general bonuses, but it must not be so, as I would have won that match up then. The only thing I can think of is the additional missile attack that the Romans have must give them a massive advantage, due to their fairly large size of Hastati and Principes.

It has to do with the difficulty setting, if your playing on hard or very hard the ai will get huge bonuses and when you autocalculate you most likely lose..i think medium is where its fair to auto resolve

Playing on Very Hard I sent a Spanish Merc and a Warband Merc group against a single unit of Balreac Slingers.... I lose... with no kills. Auto resolve sucks on Very Hard.
    Charge, repeat as necessary.

Yeah someone knowledgable please make an autocalc mod, it is expensive to fight on medium autocalc, but on H and VH its both expensive and very insulting, not even a dead man would fight so poorly as on H and VH.
Please make a MOD that sets autocalc to medium even on H and VH campaigns, sallying out to meet tiny attackers, or mowing rebels are best left to the autocalc, or else the turns gets too tedious(sp).

Playing on hard, I prefer to fight every single battle because my casualties are so severe when I autocalc.

In one battle on hard difficulty level I was attacked by a Roman army that I outnumbered 3 to 1, I was defending a mountain top in a blizzard and I had a far better general. I did an autocalc that gave me a crushing defeat, so I reloaded and fought the battle manually, effortlessly winning a heroic victory.

not sure of the total effects with changing campaign difficulty, but on the RTW disc it has a note about it in the release notes:
    Auto Resolve Battle Difficulty
When choosing difficulty settings at the start of a campaign, changing the difficulty setting for the campaign will affect the way the game auto resolves battles. The difficulty of the auto resolve inherently affects the difficulty of the campaign game, and so determines the level of challenge on the campaign map. The battle difficulty is solely used to determine the level of difficulty when the player is playing on the 3d battle map.

I really can't follow the game setting logic, unless it means that on Medium, say, your AI is dumbed down in some way. Just getting the feel for RTW & have been playing on Medium, but unless I have overwhelming odds in my favour the calc almost always shows I'm about to be handed my head. Its not a big deal as actually playing the battles out results in a win, but what concerns me is that surely the sea battles use the same calc logic.

I'm pretty sure they don't. I've had victories when I'm outnumbered more than 2:1 while at sea.
