Default Different types of formations in MTW

    All

Can anyone point me to a spot to read about the differences between the different formations?

There is a page in the battle where there are different colored boxes and I have not seen a thing about them mentioned anywhere.

    TIA

I find them a bit useless. YOu got time enough before the battle to make your own better formation. They always look a bit weird and I find it much easier to make my own.

    the group formations?
I generally dont use them much, but basically they make the ordering of your troops easier. Dont have a screen shot to work off, but take a close look and they should make sense.

The plain coloured ones are; single line (makes your troops linbe out in one long line); double line (makes em form up in a shorter doubled line) and column, (predictably makes them form up in a column, never saw much use for this)
The ones with different coloured boxes with them arrange your men slightly more discrimately, three rows, with the infantry, archers and cavalry in different order depending on your preference and then another option that places your cavalry on the flanks of the formation.

Have a look in the user manual, any of the stratagy guides Ive seen tend to not mention them.
Best of all though, do a few custom battles (use the troops you currently use and fight against) and experiment a bit. When paused, put units in a particular formation and then press space to see what theyre going to form up like.
