Thread: Expansion?

  1. #1

    Default Expansion?

Well, there's bound to be one. We've have the mongols, the vikings...so, what Invasion do you think CA have planned for Rome? I'm afraid I'm not very historically knowledgable when it comes to this time period, so I can't put forward any guesses.

Any historians care to take a guess as to the expansion?

Also, how soon after STW and MTW were MI and VI released?

hmm, maybe the expansion would take us back a bit in time: to the hey-day of greek states (i.e., the period covered in the HTW mod) and the very beginnings of the roman state. or, alternatively, to the colapse of the western roman empire. there would not be too many factions to play though: all the known world was Rome then... :)

Fall of the western Roman empire, possibly with the roman empire split into two empires that are allied. That would be cool.

I believe it will be something like MTW's Early and a Late campaign.Something at the age of Alexander and something starting at about 1AD.

That and a bunch of historic battles.

I think it will probably span another 300 years like this game, possibley from 200 AD to 476 AD (Collapse of the Roman Empire, sacking of Rome by the Visigoths) There would also be alot more barbarian factions. Not to mention the two roman factions will be alot more different by now.

There were still the Germans and Persians. Plus Scotland
Overall, I agree, it would not be all that much fun to play the collapse of the Roman Empire, which was mostly internal.

Fall of Rome, which leads nicely into their MTW remake.

my guess is that it will be about Macedon. The expansion will probably officially open up Macedon as a selectable culture, and will expand the map eastwards up to the Kush, and Ganges.

Nobody said they can't do both really. We're just assuming they'll only do one, smaller expansion pack like before.

the eastern roman empire, with it's peaks, recessions, recoveries and the ultimate collapse would be interesting too (fighting persians, barbarians, bulgarians, internal factions, later - arabs, turks). in MTW we see Byzantium in its decline already, but it had a very long violent stretch of history preceding that. on another note, arab expansion across half of the world (including taking the christian mid-eastern lands from the byzantines) could be a topic of its own...

TWO expansion packs! TWO I say! Damn you all to hell!

Expansion Pack #1: Rise of the Greeks - Spartans, Athenians, Persians & Macedonias, etc... Leonidas, Xerxes, Brennus, Pyrrhus & Alexander! 500 BC - 270 BC.

Expansion Pack #2: Barbarian Invasion! - Goths, Vandals & Huns! Constantine, Aetius & Attila! 286 AD - 500 AD.

I would dearly love a Fall of the Western Roman Empire expansion (ERE, WRE, Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Alans, Vandals, Huns etc). Played on the same map, but during Rome's fall.

    Let's see....
For STW we had the Mongol Invasion.
For MTW we had the Viking Invasion.
So my vote would be for the....Persian Invasion!!
Starting around 500BC and going thru the Peloponnesian War. Historical Battles to include: Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis, Plataea, Seige at Syracuse, Sphacteria, and so on. Would be fun for all. A closer map like maybe HTW. Some naval tweaks to the game for some intresting naval action and ofcourse better looking Spartans!!

I think the expansion is likely to be Rome, rather than Greece, linked. A prequel like the VI pack for M:TW seems most likely to me. Perhaps a first ten books of Livy based campaign set on the Italian peninsula. You could have factions like the Volsci, Aequi, Hernici, Etruscans, Samnites and Gauls. Start at the foundation of Rome and fight your way to dominance of the peninsula.

What about the Ceasar in Gaul campaign ? We can find files about it in almost everywhere in the data folder

Yes, this crossed my mind as well, especially in light of CA's 'prequel' approach for previous expansion packs. A 'Rise of Rome' expansion pack that sports a focused, limited campaign on the Italian peninsula along with some new units and another faction or two for the main game would definitely be interesting but, like Viking Invasion, somewhat lacking in overall content. I do recall a considerable number of TW fans here in the Org were rather disappointed with Viking Invasion's overall content and did not bother purchasing it. I eagerly bought VI not because I was looking forward to playing the Viking campaign but because it enhanced the original campaigns and I knew the VI factions would be a thrill to play in MP battles (ANYTHING to get away from MTW's damn pavise arbalester laden Middle/Late games!). Since Rome is such a 'huge' game I hope its expansion(s) is equally impressive in scope and size.

But hey, I'm hopelessly addicted to the Total War series so I'll buying the expansion pack regardless of the subject or content...

I think you mean Europe and Asia Minor. As far as I know, no Romans ever conquered the Far East.

Well, they never conquered the Americas either. Both are too distant too fit in realistically.
