Okay, I'm working on compiling a FAQ for Rome:Total War, so If any of you come acrossed questions you see alot, add then to this thread, with the answer to the question, then I can move them all into one big post and hopefully have it sticked.
FAQ's
FACTIONS
----------
1: Where are all the other factions!?!? I just installed the game and now I only see three roman factions!
A: At the start of the game, you need to win as a Roman faction before you can use one of the others.
2: Is there anyway to avoid this, and just play as the other factions?
A: Yes check out the Modding section for a mod to surpass all this
How do I change my faction heir?
Acess your family tree, and select the child, or brother you wish to be the heir, then there should be a small butten down bottem left saying "Select for faction heir" Click that, your ex-hier will recive a vice for -1 Influence.
My family tree isn't growing!
Try to select a younger member of your family for faction heir, A 16-20 year old is more likely to have kids then a 40-50 year old, also sometimes your characters will get "Fruitfull" as vice, this means he more likely to have kids.
How do I adopt a captain?
You can adopt a captain by useing him for a general, if he wins a good battle, or wins may battle you should recieve a message asking if you want to adopt him as one of your sons, this can be hard to do sometimes, but keep trying!
My faction does get elephants or legions! why not?
Every faction has a different roster for the most part, romans have infantry, and greeks have hoplites, most of the Eastren factions rely on heavy calvary or horse archers.
[B] How do I assign a govener? [B]
A govener can only be a family member, unlike Medieval: Total War, you don't assign titles, each family member will have an "Influence" value, you can see this on his info card, the member with the highest Influence will become govener of that town or city, this can add bonuses to happiness, if you don't have a govener you will recive a public order penelty
I need more family members!
Adopting captains is a good way to make extra family members, Your sisters, or daughters may bring home men and ask for your permission to marry him, try to accept members with high stats, your daughters will bring back idiots most the time.
Who is the senate?
The senate are a group of people who will ask you to do missions for the well-being of Rome, you should get these missions quite often, you will often get good rewards for doing them.
Why does the senate hate me?
Once you get alot of public support, your senate support tends to drop really fast, or maybe you arn't doing your missions, they can even abandon you and get other Roman factions to declare war on you.
What is public support, and senate support? where can I find it?
Public support is how much the people support you, if you are a Roman faction you can't attack another roman faction or attack rome untill you have enough support, this happens around 27 provances, you will then recieve a message saying you have the support the march onto Rome.
You can see your support by clicking the faction crest down in the bottem right of the campain screen, go to the leftmost tab called "Senate" you should then see, "senate policy" "Senate Missions" and "senate floor"
you can see support by clicking senate floor, this will show you your ammount of support from your people and the senate
Q: Where can I get a list of all my Generals and all my cities and such?
A: Right-click on one of the three info buttons in the lower-left corner of a city's info sheet.
How do I set rally points for my cities and ports?
A: Select the producing city/port then Alt+Right-click where you want the rally point to be
------------[B] CAMPAIN MAP [B]
Q: How do I defeat Squallor?
A: You cannot defeat Squallor, you can only delay and compensate for it. Squallor occurs when your population grows; the bigger the city, the more squallor. You can delay Squallor problems by slowing population growth (raise taxes, don't build farms, merchants, or sanitation buildings) or by reducing your population by building settlers (peansants or other units you build in one city and disband in another, thus moving the citizens from one city to another).
However...
You can compensate for Squallor by making people happy. Good governors can make people happy, so do temples, sanitation buildings, low taxes, and games. Garrisons and law temples indirectly reduce the unrest problems caused by Squallor not by making folks happy but by subduing unrest. Use low taxes and sanitation buildings as a last resort as they worsen the problem (through increased growth rate) more than they compensate for it (by making people happy. Sanitation buildings often provide +0.5% increase in population growth and +0.5% in happiness, but pop growth compounds while happiness doesn't. Tax rates only work significantly if you drop them to Low, which while making people happy, may also bankrupt your empire.
Why can't I build a fort or watchtower?
A: This may be for serveral reasons. First, only generals (family members) can build those structures. Second, watchtowers can only be built in friendly (your, not your ally's) territory. Third, you gotta make sure you have enough money. Four, no foreign faction units can be in a grid next to the structure (if agents are the problem, you can move them by moving your General into their box, which forces them to move to another one). Fifth, some land does not allow you to build structures on it, Germania Inferior for example. Sixth, forts, once built, will only stay on the map if there is a garrison in it at the end of the turn. Abandoned forts disappear next turn.
Q: How can I block bridges/fords?
A: You can only physically seal river crossings by placing a unit on the bridge or ford box. You can build a fort on your side of the river, but that only slows down nme units (it takes them two turns instead of 1 to cross the river as your fort "pins" them for one turn, just like ships).
--------- UNITS
I have two fleets, each with 10 or less ships, and I can't merge them, why?
A: both fleets may be lead by an admiral (a fleet with small gold stars like generals get). If that is so, individual ships within the fleets can be exchanged but you cannot put both admiral's ships in the same fleet. (I think this is so)
Can I upgrade my ships with weapon and armor upgrades?
A: Yes, apparently you can. Dock them in the port of the city with the upgrading buildings and Retrain them. The next turn, just like land units, your ships will have weapon and/or armor upgrades
My phalanx formations always move to the right! how can I stop this?
This did happen in real life, they shuffled to the right, it was a problem about that phalanx's go to this thread
(started by froggy) for some deeper help https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=38342
My archers shoot themselfs all the time, and or my legions hit eachother with thier pila!
Its always been a problem, try not to over lap two units, or try not to march through a firing unit with another unit, this should help, but it will never 100% go away
Elephants are impossible to kill!
Elephants are hard to kill, use archers with flaming ammo against them for them to run amock, remember your heavier units will have a hard time, as they are slower, myself I use skirmiskers followed up by light infantry in loose formation
