I've just started a new campaign with Julii, and I've come across a question concerning Sardinia. It is an isolated, sparsely populated province that is not in the general push of the Julii campaign, at least not in the beginning. It has some trading resources, but because there is no port there is no way to export them. It produces a bit of money (around 450 if you're Carthaginian, more than what the Julii would make eventually), but the few extra town watch it takes to guard would dampen the revenues, not to mention that if you enslave the population, which I always do for enemy towns to keep them under control, there are not enough people in Caralis to recruit. This means that you have to keep mainland troops there until it "matures" enough to be able to provide for its own defense. I offered the province to the Brutii, and they gave me a very nice sum for it (6000 denarii), and would probably have given even more to me had I pressed them for it.
So, the question boils down to; do I sell this rebellious, distant island off for vital cash, or do I hang on to it, spending money to construct pacifying buildings and garrisoning Italian forces in the hope that I will profit from its trade resources and use it as a naval base in the long run? Or is there an alternative to either of the two?
