Robert Mcnamara when asked by JFK to be secretary of Defense *from Fog of War*

"Look, Bob," he said, "I don't think there's any school for Presidents either."
Don't put a General in command of an army - get the army to fight a battle. Win it handily and there is a good chance that your Captain of the army will get the option of being adopted by your Family. This isn't foolproof and sometimes Captains win battle after battle but never get adopted.
At the beginning of your campaign you might have a scarcity of Family members - by the end of most campaigns I'm taking most of my time trying to find places for all of the family members I have - getting adoptions and marriage announcements all over the place - and bribing enemy Family members....

You can bribe other faction members to join you, plus its possible for a garisson commander to be offered for adoption. Plus there's adoption by marriage.
go visit the egyptians if you want family members....there all join ya im sure lol

its quite useful getting captains adopted espec early on. Mine usually tend to have good v+v's as well.
also welcome to the boards
Yeah i had one in my early brutii campaing. I only had 4 family members and yet I had one army captain that kept on fighting battle after battle and I got nothing. Unyil my leader died and then I started to get some new family members. I also though I was gonna lose thanks to only having 4 family members.Originally Posted by Colovion

I just started playing this game as well as posting to this forum. This is my first experience with a Total War game... it's pretty addictive!
Anyways I've only ever gotten one adoption by having a captain become a general... I think that was after a fairly simple battle with Rebels... but one which I pretty much slaughtered them without taking many losses...
Now this general is my faction leader... just because he was like 20 with like 5 command so I made him my faction heir... then my leader died...
So do most captains that become generals usually start this good?
Also I've found that almost all the egyptians I came in contact with were plague carriers... is that normal as well? (I kind of went on a bribing spree since I'm mid-game and have way too much cash... I'm brutii)

I have noticed Captains get promoted more frequently when you win a battle with a Heroic Victory.
Not sure if this is always the case, but thats how most of my promotions have occurred.
That's my experience as well - he'll have to do well against foes at least his own numbers or more.Originally Posted by Silva
