    bob,

    the enemy troops were not in range yet. he had velites and i had slingers. slingers have a greater range, and mine had not begun to fire yet. so we weren't in missile range of each other. as soon as i charged my phalanx though, my general had the death cutscene. no enemy troops were near, and my missile troops were in front of my general. if it wasn't my phalanx then i don't know what could possibly have killed him.

    If they use "realistic" friendly fire for missiles, why not melee? it'd be even easier to model, I would think. actually about the same - just another weapon tip to keep track of.
