    Default CA: Campaign Enhancement Idea, Some Randomizing

    This one is mainly for CA consideration...but I thought it might make for some interesting discussion. Folks might hate the concept but I thought I would throw it out there.

    The good: fog of war is nice on the strat map since we don't know who is on our borders...

    Problem: However, once you learn the starting positions, subsequent campaigns with a given faction become almost scripted.

    Idea for Enhancement: Have a toggle for allowing some semi random changes to the strategy map starting positions. The capitols should probably stay put, and the structures/army strength/# of territories should not change dramatically, but it would be interesting to have some of the satellite regions occasionally be in different hands (sometimes rebel, sometimes my faction, or perhaps even another faction might get some of them.) It might also be best to somewhat randomize the army unit distribution. Sometimes the results would be easy, sometimes quite hard.

    This would restore some fog of war to the campaign and give the AI back a little parity. If you blindly go charging at a province in the initial "rush" you might find yourself pointed in the wrong direction.

    Implementation: Have the game generate a new campaign strat map file for the first move of a new campaign when the toggle is on. (Yeah, I know that is easier said than done... )

    Or just at the start of each campaign have the ai randomize who it goes to war with first. goos make more a plethera of diff campaign options with aliance's etc.

    That's a good idea however I bet it would only compound the AI issues in the game.

    Possibly, but I don't think it would, because I don't think the AI moves are necessarily scripted at the start. I think they are just following their rule set and therefore doing the same thing repetitively. I think the things that are randomizing are: the player's moves (and the ripple effect on factions) and the random battle outcomes/rebels/heirs etc. Instead I think it would have a more leveling influence on the player who can/will exploit the known map and known AI troup distributions and initial movements.

    I'm sure something like this will come in a future patch, probably more like picking who to attack, i;m playing a game where the gauls and julii have never gone to war!

    i had a game as the Julii where i had an allience with Gaul, although they did backstab me and attacked me when all my forces were tied up in africa

    Could be a good idea, although if it did happen the game may become too civ-ish.
