Default How to Raise Command in Generals RTW

Just wondering if anyone knows how a general gains experience and gets another command star?

I saved this one battle where when I auto-resolve the general gains an experience in command... but the general loses about 500 of my men (a Clear Victory)... meanwhile when I control the battle and get a heroic victory losing only 175 men and killed every single one of their 1400+ men I don't gain an experience in command...

Just thought that kind of strange...

Robert Mcnamara when asked by JFK to be secretary of Defense *from Fog of War*

Jack Kennedy is sitting in one armchair and Bobby Kennedy's sitting in the other. "Mr. President, it's absurd, I'm not qualified."

"Look, Bob," he said, "I don't think there's any school for Presidents either."

Remember that the victory rating (Herioc, Clear, Close, Average, Crushing), is not always an accurate meter. After all, the AI thinks that when you advance and they withdraw without conflict is a close victory. Do-nothing sallies are draws. I remember hearing about a scale used to determine a character's upcoming V&V's. I bet there is a numerical rating for personal wins-losses, which takes into effect casualties, odds, and routed units. Then add in the random to keep you on your toes. At least I hope so, becasue that sounds cool!

Remember that a general often can get a new command star without a msg popping up on the left side of the screen.

For a general to get a new command star he has to satisfy certain criterias during a fight, to trigger certain triggers.

The different traits affecting command are :

    Trait GoodCommander (AntiTraits BadCommander)
    Level Confident_Commander(Threshold 1 Effect Command 1)
    Level Good_Commander (Threshold 2 Effect Command 2)
    Level Superior_Commander(Threshold 4 Effect Command 3)
    Level Great_Commander(Threshold 8 Effect Command 4)
    Level Legendary_Commander(Threshold 16 Effect Command 5)

    Trait GoodAttacker AntiTraits BadAttacker)
    Level Confident_Attacker(Threshold 1 Effect Attack 1)
    Level Good_Attacker(Threshold 2 Effect Attack 2)
    Level Superior_Attacker(Threshold 4 Effect Attack 3)
    Level Great_Attacker(Threshold 8 Effect Attack 4)
    Level Heroic_Attacker(Threshold 16 Effect Attack 5)

    Trait GoodDefender (AntiTraits BadDefender)
    Level Confident_in_Defence( Threshold 1 Effect Defence 1)
    Level Good_Defender(Threshold 2 Effect Defence 2)
    Level Superior_Defender(Threshold 4 Effect Defence 3)
    Level Great_Defender(Threshold 8 Effect Defence 4)
    Level Heroic_Defender(Threshold 16 Effect Defence 5)

    Trait GoodAmbusher (AntiTraits BadAmbusher)
    Level Good_Ambusher(Threshold 1 Effect Ambush 1)
    Level Sneaky_Ambusher(Threshold 2 Effect Ambush 2)
    Level Exceptional_Ambusher(Threshold 4 Effect Ambush 3)

And in similiar ways you have the traits for GoodSiegeAttacker and GoodSiegeDefender with the same threshold and affects.

As you can see there are certain thresholds to each trait. Each trait like GoodAttacker can have a certain number attached to it, ill call that the rank in that trait. In the GoodAttacker trait once you get rank 1 you will get the first trait called Confident_Attacker. However once your rank is 4 you can see you need 4 new ranks before you reach the next threshold witch will give you the next star and trait. This is one reason why you dont always get a star upon winnig a battle.

However to get a new rank in a trait you need to satisfy some triggers. Ill only list the triggers that affect the GoodAttacker trait and GoodCommander trait. The triggers for the other traits work in a similiar way, so once you understand this you understand how the other works.

    Trigger V0010_Standard_Battle_Attacker_Crushing_Victory_VnV_Trigger
    WhenToTest PostBattle

    Condition WasAttacker
    and IsGeneral
    and WonBattle
    and BattleSuccess = crushing
    and I_ConflictType Normal
    and BattleOdds >= 0.5
    and BattleOdds < 1.5

    Affects GoodAttacker 2 Chance 100
    Affects TacticalSkill 1 Chance 5

    Trigger V0050_Standard_Battle_Attacker_Clear_Victory_VnV_Trigger
    Condition WasAttacker
    and BattleSuccess = clear
    and BattleOdds >= 0.5
    and BattleOdds < 1.5
    Affects GoodAttacker 1 Chance 100

    Trigger V0090_Standard_Battle_Any_Victory_VnV_Trigger
    Condition IsGeneral
    and WonBattle
    Affects GoodCommander 1 Chance 100

Ofc there are also oposite triggers to these, like if you loose a battle you may loose one rank in the said trait.

So to sums things up. Every time you win a victory you will get one rank in the good commander trait, that at certain thresholds gives you a new command star. The other traits like GoodAttacker requires more conditions to be satisfied, like odds between 0.5 and 1.5 etc. These traits will also gove you command stars, but only when attacking, so they will not show up as a star on your character. Besides these traits there are other traits that also gives your character permanent starts but they are given at birth and cant be affected. A characters experience does not influence command stars and is given to the general only if he participates in the actual fighting.
